More great content creators coming to YouTube

Wonderful things happen when cool technology meets great entertainment. Cable television expanded our viewing possibilities from just a handful of channels to hundreds, and brought us some of the most defining media experiences of the last few decades-- think MTV, ESPN and CNN. Today, the web is bringing us entertainment from an even wider range of talented producers, and many of the defining channels of the next generation are being born, and watched, on YouTube.

Today we’re announcing that even more talented creators and original entertainment will soon join YouTube’s existing channel lineup, including channels created by well-known personalities and content producers from the TV, film, music, news, and sports fields, as well as some of the most innovative up-and-coming media companies in the world and some of YouTube’s own existing partners. These channels will have something for everyone, whether you’re a mom, a comedy fan, a sports nut, a music lover or a pop-culture maven.

Our goal with this channels expansion, along with the grants and educational programs we’ve launched in the past year, is to bring an even broader range of entertainment to YouTube, giving you more reasons to keep coming back again and again. And for advertisers, these channels will represent a new way to engage and reach their global consumers.

The first of these new original channels will appear on YouTube starting next month and will continue over the next year. They’ll be available to you on any internet-connected device, anywhere in the world, with all the interactivity and social features of YouTube built right in.

Be the first to know when the original channels launch by signing up here. For a sneak peak, take a look here.

hi, I try to give a feedback to youtube, but this is frustrating, all the help forum contact us, I just can't find a email address or mail form to specific reception to send my idea or suggestion. shouldn't this works as a operator forward my message to relate department? I strongly suggest that a floating feedback link at the corner at every page just like google+ besides just report a bug.

I've seen youtube put some projects rolling, like live broadcast of concert, crowd recruiting like music and other talents through open event, I hope there will be projects concerns public, one of my proposal is letting people's voices heard similar to short speech style like TED.com, you can hold a contest like "1 million dollar idea", and give support or working with winners through all kinds of ways of cooperation.

No longer YOUtube is it ?... Jay-Z, Tony Hawk, Madonna, Shaquille O’Neal, Ashton Kutcher, Sofía Vergara, Pharrell Williams and more - Sounds like a Selling out to me... YOUtube ? Going into WhatWeWantYOUToWatchTube - *sigh*

Maybe its just me :/... but YOUtube is about user created content, not corporate like the names above

I think that once I get my own place, I won't need actual cable anymore. With Hulu+, Netflix, Redbox, and now this, my tv watching needs will be met :)

Cool. I can't wait.

I'd likely be there as well if the educational value of my videos was recognized by YouTube.

this is a very interesting concept

Are these channels going to be live, on demand, or a combination of both.

It would be very interesting if there could be a live programme schedule, but with on-demand recordings of individual shows.

How about captioning . . . will these be accessible to us deaf and hard-of-hearing people?

Any chance of this becoming available outside the US?!

If we are watching what "talented creators and original entertainment" offer, it's no longer YouTube. More like "WhatWeWant*You*ToSee*Tube*".

I rely on the "community" here, to suggest new and interesting channels. I hope these promoted channels, will,
1.Reply to comments
2.Allow,/ encourage video responses.
Or, they are just another 57 channels with nothing on,as Bruce Springsteen lamented years ago. MTV is NOT Music any longer. ESPN has poor programming.CNN has lost its voice. Nice similes.

strells7 said...

None of those are similes...

Also for the comment that this is a sellout, you don't think Vevo was a sellout? It is Google, they are a huge company. And this doesn't take anything away from YouTube, so not much will change unless you actively seek this programming out.

Sounds cool, obviously not all of the content is up my alley, but some of it sounds interesting.

I foresee further deterioration of the medium, with advertising overpowering the screen, to the likes of which can only be imagined. If you find the current watermarks and pop-ups on cable TV annoying, you ain't seen nothin' yet. The big advertising companies will ruin YouTube unless Google sets some guidelines. Unfortunately, their management of Android has been pretty lacking, and I don't see YouTube being any better. The stock market's respons to this news does not appear to be favourable. The stock closed at $600 on Friday and opened at $579, today.

Another dilution of the Youtube concept in favour of corporate greed. I guess the homepage will be entirely devoid of user content now, which it mostly is already.

This will be good.

This sounds like a great idea

Congratulations to YouTube and the people at Google. I think providing content that can be seen on pc, tablets, etc is the way to go.

I think a company or an entrepreneur starts with a vision. My vision is that the consumer has access to content on demand on every medium technically feasible. YouTube meets that vision. We will see about the price, but I am not afraid of paying for good content.

I think the lesson to Verizon FIOS is: do not have a vision of 'how can I make the most money on my on-demand programming', but 'how can I provide the most content to my customers?"

This is good. It will drive more people to youtube to watch Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Tyler The Creator, Ray William Johnson, And SxEPhil who pay the bills.

And leave the rest of us the "F" alone to make creative content, that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator - that is the key to success in media.

We Australians contribute much more per capita to the Internet than any other nation. But the handicap: no local feed to USA-based Youtube. This is for both high definition viewing of existing videos, and uploading our videos. Could Youtube do a "google" and decentralize high-speed servers on every large continent? We are a $$-rich nation, loving Youtube advertisers. Please remember that the USA needs $$-income from other nations.
