Screening Room now showing short films from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival
Can’t make it to Park City, Utah to mingle with independent film’s glitterati at the Sundance Film Festival this year? We’ll bring the magic to you.
To celebrate the kickoff of one of the world’s most acclaimed independent film festivals, YouTube and the Sundance Film Institute are teaming up to present a collection of past and present short films in the YouTube Screening Room. Over the next few weeks, we’ll feature:
- Four career-starting short films from past Sundance Film Festivals
- Four short films from past participants in the Sundance Director’s Lab
- Twelve short films from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival
This week’s installment includes four new films from up-and-coming directors. The films’ settings range from a virtual, retro-gaming world to the very real struggles of contemporary Afghanistan.
8 Bits Witness a fight between an 8-bit superhero and a high-def boss, set in a retro-gaming world. Directed by Valere Amirault, Sarah Laufer, Jean Delaunay and Benjamin Mattern.
Andy and Zach Andy tries to set up a new life when his roommate and best friend, Zach, moves out. Directed by Nick Paley.
Skateistan: To Live and Skate in Kabul Skateistan is an oasis where children can be children and build the kind of cross-cultural relationships that Afghanistan needs for future stability. Directed by Orlando von Einsiedel.
The High Level Bridge Trevor drops his camera from Edmonton's High Level Bridge in memory of those who have jumped. Directed by Trevor Anderson.
Check out the Screening Room again on January 27, 2011, and February 3, 2011, to catch the next two installments of short films from this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The new comment layout, fine with me.
But THIS, is just too much too take! The front page has completely lost it's organised, simple layout!
I don't know where you get your ideas, but I think I speak for a big part of the community when I say "YouTube, go F*ck yourself."
i'm trying to be as nice as possible here.
why do you guys INSIST on changing the layouts to constantly worse ones? newer and more expensive does not mean better. in my opinion the best layout you've had was when there was a video sidebar (about a year and a half to two years ago), and the last frontpage layout you had (as of about a day ago 1/19/11) before changing to this one. honestly i'm not sure why you people think it's better to change these layouts for the worst. if you keep doing this, i can promise you youtube is going to be the next myspace. EVERYONE is going to be using it, and then they make a bunch of horrible updates that they think "improves" it, and drives everyone away to facebook. "facebook" in youtubes case would be another video sharing website.
you guys need to get your act together, and get the communities opinion before doing these kinds of things. notice each time you do these "updates", more and more people make ranting videos about how much they hate the new layout, and then they get a ton of views and EVERY SINGLE PERSON AGREES WITH THEM.
honestly, youtube, listen to the community if you want to improve youtube instead of just doing it yourself and taking steps backwards like you have been for the past year or so.
No one cares about this. Put the homepage back.
Remember when you guys made that new homepage, and everyone hated it? Yeah, thing is, that's still sort of something that is happening. So maybe lets spend less time blogging about film festivals and more time fixing your mistakes?
