Celebrating our partners’ success
As 2010 draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on another incredible year in online video. During the last 12 months you all watched more than 700 billion YouTube videos, and uploaded more than 13 million hours of content to the site. We met a bunch of new faces (and fruits) and celebrated as new YouTube partners hit the big time with millions of views. Indeed, our partner program grew to around 15,000 participants worldwide.
We’re privileged to work with the most passionate and talented partners in the world, who produce and upload videos that inspire us, make us laugh and move us -- and, most importantly, change the way we look at the world. In bedrooms, garages and studios across the globe, these talented and entrepreneurial YouTube partners are building the next generation of media companies, and in July this year we announced a new way we’d be supporting this via Partner Grants.
It’s clear that we want to see YouTube partners continue to create great video and further push the boundaries of what’s possible online. To that end, today we’re giving a $1,000 credit at B&H Photo to 500 partners around the world, who primarily create and distribute their content online, to purchase new video production equipment. This group includes well-known YouTube stars like ShayCarl, MysteryGuitarMan and FreddieW (and this past weekend we learned the latter two make quite a guitar-bass duo), and also successful musicians like Kina Grannis and promising new talents like EmilyNoel83, who was the inaugural winner of our “On The Rise” program last month. Collectively, these 500 partners generated billions of video views in 2010, and we chose them to receive a $1,000 credit based on their popularity during 2010, as well as their online focus.
We hope this will provide our most popular partners with the tools they need -- whether it be a new camera, sound & lighting equipment or editing software -- to produce even higher quality videos and ultimately drive bigger audiences to their work. Hundreds of creative people all around the world have launched professional careers after using YouTube as a global platform to demonstrate their talent - we want to see this number continue to grow.
On behalf of the entire YouTube community, we thank these partners for sharing their creativity and talent with us, and we look forward to what’s to come in 2011 and beyond.

I am trying to find out if anyone has already thought about this idea:
Construct a new social network such that each individual user has their own unique cloud which would solve privacy or security issues, make it easier to share or distribute (personal) videos, etc., and such that each unique cloud would act as an I.D. for making online or mobile payments, etc.? (I was not able to find out earlier if the new Diaspora uses unique individual clouds that would be secure enough to function as I.D.s, or if Diaspora uses a cloud engine like OnApp).
we lovee you youtube!
And all the good nonparters will just watch, jealous. How biased you are Youtube.
Congrats to all 500 partners!!!!
Please tell me this is not only for the United States....

Congratulations to all the recipients of the Partner Grants!
Congrats to the 500 chosen!
Hey, Congratulations to all the 500 partners! We all love you YOU-TUBE, Wishing the entire community of you-tube a merry Christmas, and a happy new 2011.
Cool
awesome, you treat your partners well, gj youtube and all partners of course for putting up great content! shaytards ftw!
I am wondering why non profits aren't considered. A lot of them are doing what they do on a less than shoestring budget...
Congrats to the partners!
woo!!! shaycarl!!!!
Doesn't seem fair YouTube really...
YAY!! Thank you so much, YouTube! And congrats to all of the other partners! Everyone at YT is so kind and amazing to work with. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!!
Okay, I'm trying not to look stupid here. But, I don't get it.
@zzzzzz- Actually, this is just the beginning of the Partner Grants program. Financially, it makes sense to start out with those YT knows it can have an immediate and influential effect.
As I said, though, this is just the beginning. As the Partner Grants have an opportunity to grow and build as a program, YT will be able to expand those grants to smaller partners, including nonprofits. It's just a matter of time!
Wish i was one of them! :(
But that's cool that you guys did this.

Shaytards FTW !
Holy new camera! That's awesome, YouTube. Nice to see you take care of yours. Hope to join them one day!
Well, in case anyone was wondering, you needed to gain more than 300,000 subscribers in 2010 to qualify.
Would have thought I'd make that top-500... but since I didn't, I can only assume there is some mighty strong competition out there.
jermworm_10 what's not to get? 500 youtube partners are receiving $1,000 gift certificates to B&H Photo which specializes in cameras other recording devices.
YouTube was like "How can we get people to hate us more?" - and this was the result.
Glad YouTube is starting to foster new talent. We have been presenting the finest original online entertainment since before Goo-Tube at www.burningshorts.com where many of the regular visitors are Hollywood creative professionals. Finally, a way to be seen and, if compelling, recognized! From Disney to Lassiter, all the great ones started small. Onward!
Awesome! What a great idea. Hopefully, someday I'll get to be a partner :)
How about the non popular partners who don't make thousands like the top 100 do? We could USE the free stuff.
Are Nigahiga , shane dawson, and Blt partners cause i never can tell
Don't forget to mention the ramping up of advertisements. YouTube is so awesome now that I think I can almost watch as many advertisements on it as TV! Just splendid, especially since for every advertisement I see I will go out of my way to avoid and boycott that product.
They treat there BIG partners well. Just like when they all gave them Nexus Ones lol. They never give a thing to smaller partners let alone the overall YouTube community that makes these big partners what they are today in the first place. I know that would be a bit much and i'm sure it's nice for the big partners even though they already make enough lol.
B&H Photo-Video is thrilled to be part of this exciting endeavor and flattered we're Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s favorite camera equipment store. This is the highest sort of compliment.
Helping 500 video producers means 500 better-equipped artists and a wealth of new videos during the coming months. It's a great opportunity. Kudos to YouTube for making this happen.

I don't understand why people are upset over this. They partner people who do really well and are very popular so they can continue to make videos for our enjoyment. Then to further help them make videos they give out grants. How about yall stop being big babies and whining because you weren't chosen and be happy for the people that were. They deserve it.
I am a youtube partner
but Not credited ........
youtube give me money !!!!!!!!
give me money , I Work hard!!
so give me money
merry X'mas !!!!!!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Well done! Hope we get a good return on the investment!
That's so awesome! Congrats to the 500!
I don't understand why they give the highest earning partners a bump, my camera took a crap and it'll be months before I can save for a new one. How bout helping us smaller partners??
wow that was sweet youtube and congrats to all the 500 partners who got them sweet gifts
mystery guitar man rules.
I love YouTube
WHY did you people FORCE the linking of accounts? Hmm? If I WANTED that garbage linked together, I would have clicked on 'Link Accounts' a LONG TIME AGO when the prompts first started appearing! I didn't want it then, and I DONT want it now, and I believe it's just yet one more power trip. What's the matter? Not enough people opening up their emails to spamming for your tastes?
Take your linked accounts and stick 'em in a dark hole where they don't belong! As an OPTION it's fine, but to FORCE IT DOWN OUR THROATS? To hell with that.
Congrats, YT, on alienating YET ANOTHER user. Nice job, way to go, I'm sure your bigwigs in their million dollar estates are patting themselves on the back and very proud of themselves right now.... give me a break.
In addition to all the ads and advertisements and hijacked videos (I won't buy a blessed THING that appears in ANY ONE OF THOSE ADS - instant boycott on my part, thanks, makes my shopping choices a lot easier actually!).
Yeah, you're doing such a great job. The FORCED linked accounts was my last straw. I don't think I'll be anywhere near YT again. Good going, YT. See ya. It was nice while it lasted.
Before you got GREEDY.
LOL I JUUUST found out about this today 2/2/11 congrats... wish I were included in the 500... maybe next year! SUBSCRIBE 2 ME! LOL...

So you helped those that were already making it with $1,000 credit. Wouldn't it have been better to help those that were almost making it and might turn to other things as a focus because they can't make enough on the partner program to do it full-time?
Hopefully there is more in the works for those that haven't made it - and made Google money through billions of views... hopefully there is something going on for those of us that don't know whether to pursue making videos in the partner program or not.
Yep. The partners listed make hand over fist already with the partnership. Seems like they could afford to return some of their own money into their creation. Unlike the small partners that barely make the minumum monthly amount to get paid, you know, the ones who would USE it, and appreciate being recognized!
I love you youtube
