YouTube Gets Smarter on the Small Screen

As more and more people are using the browser on their smartphones for checking email, visiting websites, and even accessing YouTube, we want to make sure that we provide the best possible YouTube experience on your mobile browser. Today we released a new mobile website specifically designed to access YouTube on smartphones with capable browsers; phones like the iPhone, G1 and Palm Pre.

Just visit youtube.com from your mobile phone, and you'll be taken to a new website specially designed for your device. You can log into your account, view your favorites, and discover and share new videos quickly and easily with whoever you choose. It's part of our mission to create the best possible YouTube experience for you, whether you use the site on your computer, in your living room, or on the go.

I fixed this issue awhile ago ;) Luckily the encasement of the iPhone is more substantial with every model. Either Freeze it or Blow Dry (hot or cold temperature) depending on air else baking soda/basmati rice etc. Naturally absorption

Will this final allow us to see our youtube private messages on our cell phone or reply to comments???
No mention of these features makes me very very sad!

All I get is "malformed URL" when I click play...that sucks.

@ abe

What do you mean by "Windows Mobile version"?

Windows Mobile uses a web browser... that's all you need...

very happy to see iPhone version... means I can use it on my Touch!

Still, no PSP...

Wii's are included but I think that is not necessary since you have a whole TV. plus, that's not new news.

How about not leaving out other 'capable' smartphones like Symbian-powered smartphones? The Nokia N97, 5800 XpressMusic, and Samsung i8910 OmniaHD all have full touch browsers based on Webkit that support Flash natively - even more capable than the iPhone or the Pre, currently. Any love for them?

Umm, for some reason, my computer is showing the mobile version of the site, whether or not I'm logged in, I am using firefox and am on a desktop computer, I'm kinda confused, what's going on?

Hello.

I appreciate how you're trying to improve YouTube for mobile interent users. However, there are people (such as myself) that use PCs. Please allow us to use the old YouTube layout. Just do that and it will be perfect.

new channel design:

1. you cannot see how many uploads the user has
2. you cannot see what rating and how many ratings each video has, at a glance, this should not be so
3. frequent crashes when scrolling, even when using FF 3.5.2
4. cannot see when user was last online

Sure you do everything else better and i do like it with the new interface on the iPod Touch/iPhone and mobile interface. But please fix your choppy bandwidth. YouTube is not enjoyable while watching constant pausing videos.

Wow, great job. I saw this on my ipod touch and was quite impressed byit. After such a long time of complaints about the new beta channel designs for the desktop version, its good to see something that I am actually impressed by and like coming from youtube. Great job with this new mobile site!

About time, jeez I was wondering when you guys would get to blackberry users. I've been watching youtube on my pearl for the better part of an hour so good on you folks.

You have two major problems with youtube:

1. When you reorder your playlist, the embed for your blog doesn't have the new order. So, something in the embed isn't updating. YES, I hit "save changes" after changing the order in my playlist!

2. When you go into all the latest videos of your subscriptions, you can NOT right click on one particular video and open up that video in a play screen. It opens up the SAME subscription list screen with all the latest subscription videos.

Please fix these two annoying flaws in youtube!

Big Dan said...

For example, right click on any of these videos and open it in a new windown or tab, you get the same screen! With all the videos! And not just the one you wanted to open!

Am I missing something here?

I hope this works, it has been frustrating to never be able to watch videos on my HTC Mogul!

I think you should make the website use each phone's native font because it doesn't seem as such, at least in the iPhone/iPod touch. Also, the Search button could be a little smaller but not to much and you could give the UI a few tweaks to make it perfect.

Overall, good job. This means that the iPhone's/iPod touch's built-in app is not needed as much, if it all. ;) However, it could be transferred to the App Store.

I got a real quick question then. Why is my TyTn II suddenly not compatible with the Windows Mobile version of the YouTube app? I was always able to upgrade before... Trying to phase out a barely 2-year old phone are you Google?

With Samsung Galaxy I see the old version

I just tested this on the HTC Hero and unfortunately it's not working at all. Great idea however.. and remember that this device sports Flash :-)

I was very glad to see that you finally came up with a new and improved design for the mobile site. I finally have the comfort of adding ratings and comments from my iPod touch, which is really what I wanted most. Thanks YT!

I love having youtube on my phone. I have a blackberry storm, and it works amazing with my phone. Youtube runs clean and quickly on my phone, and video's play at the same quality and speed as they do on my regular computer. I never though about using it in the past, but I grew very fond of it when i realized i can show people what I am talking about now.
