Watch it on YouTube, then Click-to-Buy
We're happy when we can help YouTube users enjoy the content they love, and we're happy when we can help our partners build their businesses online – but we're happiest when we can do both.
That's why last year we launched our eCommerce platform for YouTube, which allows users to easily "click-to-buy" products -- like songs and movies -- related to the content they're watching on the site. The past few months have demonstrated that great content on YouTube leads to increased sales. For example, when Monty Python launched their channel in November, not only did their YouTube videos shoot to the top of the most viewed lists, but their DVDs also quickly climbed to No. 2 on Amazon's Movies & TV bestsellers list, with increased sales of 23,000 percent.
Today we're expanding the program beyond the US and the UK. Links to songs from the iTunes Store will now appear in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, so users from those countries who are drawn to a particular song can easily purchase it. And it's not limited to tracks on videos uploaded directly by our partners – partners can add these links to videos uploaded by users by using our our Content ID tools to claim videos that match their content.
We're also expanding and improving the ways in which these links are displayed. You may start to see click-to-buy links appearing as semi-transparent overlays that appear in the bottom of the video for a short period of time. This increased visibility should help even more people take advantage of this program.
As we said when we first launched click-to-buy links, this is just the beginning – over time, we're aiming to open up the program to cover many types of content beyond music. We've already experimented with links to purchase DVDs and video games, and we intend to experiment with links to additional types of products soon.
Happy shopping,
The YouTube Team

Great info, I want to implement it! Thanks a lot guys.
Thanks a lot MAN!!!!
show me the music!
Any entrpreneurial business would look for opportunities to make more money while delivering another sought after service.
If it has worked means they got it right.
Isnt that what good business is about?
Thats so awesome I cant wait for the video games
I love this idea, an excellent way to promote eBusiness! Thank you YouTube
GREAT S***
Where is this "click to buy"? HOW can you sign up?
Hooray, more money for google... still monetizing YouTube would have to be a priority for them indeed...
Free rides don't last forever.
Youtube had to make money at some point, and the purchase of the company by Google made that even more evident.
I dont care about ads on youtube, since you can still close out of them, and ignore them.
If you want an addfree service, maybe google should make youtube pro accounts, that cost money and remove ads, as well as other features.
Youtube not only has to pay for its hosting, and peoples jobs working at google, but it also has to deal with copyright lawyers, because idiots upload music videos and expect that its okay.
Nice! Great ideas guys!
this is the living proof that money makes the world go round...

Connect the dots.
So, you're going to clutter up the video box with ads? If so, at least include a way to not show them because I don't watch videos to see ads and other items cluttering up and covering what I'm watching.
oh really ?! Might of gotten some inspiration from this!!!!!

This is Great! How can I use copyrighted music but have a link for people to buy it?
I agree with anon. Youtube does have the right to do this.
You can always choose not to use youtube and start your own site if you don't like it. Let's see how long you can keep it running without revenue (yt is still losing money).
hgh
I am a partner and watch my tutoral on how to easy become a partner
If the artist gets his or her fair share of the pie then this could be very exciting for musicians and copyright owners. If You Tube is going approach this with big dollar signs in their eyes, it will be yet another blow to the entertainment industry. You Tube please treat this with respect and dignity so both the business and the ARTIST can grow together! Don't hog the capital. It's important for the artist to want to be a part of the You Tube brand. One business needs the other. Kinda like why you always see Mc Donalds next to Burger King. The business's feed off eachother.......the food isn't healthy but the business approach is !
Will we be able to upload music soon?
i have my Legendary Album on itunes. hip hop. to purchase it, go to itunes then type in the artist section
ghostblack305 or you can buy it directly from ghost black at
www.myspace.com/ghostblack305
Great news - this will be even better when you open it up to any external content.
So the people that will upload videos will get a part of this revenue or only Youtube will get 100% of the money?
Thanks
Sieg capitalism and praise the green paper goodies... Seriously, youtube is becoming more and more intent on commercial exploitation if this once wonderful media. Money isn't all. Comon, isn't it enough that those annoying ass links by google keeps popping up (YES, those are pop-ups FFS!) ?
I hate to keep harping on this, but can SOMEONE please give a source or citation for this? Denzacar and I have been trying to figure out where this 23,000 percent number has come from, and we can't turn up anything. Also, are we talking about ALL Monty Python DVD's that are sold on Amazon, or one disc or set in particular? If so, which one?
Mashable, Topless Robot, and Boing Boing, among others, are quoting this blog entry -- Monty Python's own website quotes it. But I'm beginning to think it isn't true.
Please, please -- someone research this. The internet has many lies. I WANT to believe this is true and that all studios will start putting their content online for free. But if this proves to be false, it will be a lot harder to convince them.
Anyone? Someone from Amazon, maybe?
I hate those who say youtube is obsessed with money.
You have no idea how much they bandthwith must cost. YouTube ALONE have more bandwith than the entire internet several years ago. They have to pay for every video that goes out. Frankly, I don't even see how it's possible to have so much traffic ... their servers must be god-like. But being part of google may help. anyway, thanks youtube for great service.
Could you please provide a cite for your claim that Monty Python DVD sales increased 23,000 percent since their channel's debut on YouTube?
Where does that number come from? It has been picked up and distributed throughout the web, but I can find no way of verifying it.
Can anyone here provide a source?
YouTube, you are going down! You are becoming more and more obsessed with money!
Youtube was my favourite site for years. I could watch interesting tutorials and educational videos, I could listen songs for free and I could even post videos. Now this whole 'video not available in your country' and 'audio disabled due to copyright infringement' really gets on my nerves. I can't watch videos i could watch before!? Why!? Youtube was the best thing to happen to the internet in years! A fast free way to watch media! Now I'm afraid it's turning into something commercial. I think the next Youtube will be charging money for membership.
I refuse to buy mp3's for several reasons. Movies as well. I go out of my way to get them both for free. I can see this being convienent for partners and so good for them but I just think it's amusing because I rip mp3's off of youtube all the time.
To who said one way or another, ads are a free way you can contribute money to youtube. Buying an mp3 you have to pay out of pocket for the product. But I like the idea of meshing an online store into youtube. I have friends on youtube that have a cafepress store for example. It makes it more convienent for them. I think youtube is getting more respect in a way that people like Michael Buckley can make a decent living off of just making silly videos online.
Hi, I am also confused about how to add click to buy links for content we sell through our site and not itunes or amazon. Is this possible? Also wanted to use content id but we don't have exclusive rights to all of the video samples I've uploaded, but we do have exclusive rights to some of the videos. How do I sign up for content id for the ones we do own exclusive rights for?
Could you please hurry up a bit. I live in Denmark so I cannot make money putting my videos on Youtube. And you need to expand click-to-buy so that it support all products on Amazon and from all Google Checkout partner stores. Content publishers should not only be paid per click, they should get a reasonable share of the sales as a referral payment.
You need to open monetization up with overlay ads on all videos from many more content publishers then just the ones that you specify as partners in a few limited amount of countries.
Seriously Google, activate these changes now worldwide. No more waiting, no more testing. Just launch it.
Thanks. This new feature will be very helpful. I hope WMG will reexamine their recent poor decision.
A Mac user talking about YouTube becoming a money-luring company. How do they think Apple survives?
Neat!
I'm lost. So how do we enable this? I have content on iTunes, Amazon.
I hope this becomes successful, it will prove to those companies who prefer to block content that it can be a good idea to use videos containing their work as a way to actually help sell their content legally.
at first i didn't like this, but now one of my friends here on youtube is telling me about how to become a partner. i am working hard at it, and i like posting videos of things like paintball, dirt biking, cars, all sorts of things, and add music to them. i hope that this will help me even make some money doing it. at first i was getting copyright claims on my videos, but i have realized that it's not as hard as it seems to get permission. in fact, i am currently working with Universal Music Group to use a song on one of my latest videos, and it is working out pretty well. all i have to do is put a camera on my head, ride around the desert on my dirt bike for a little while, put music to the video, and i'm a happy camper, and i enjoy doing all of it. THANKS YOUTUBE.
This sounds awesome! Im a partner so if im going to be selling products for a company aren't we getting any revenue off it? And i would also like an answer to fallofautumndistro's question, Hi Alan.
I Guess I thought they were totally eliminating the audio from all music videos...
Nevermind my comment.
@MachintoshUser03 - So you want all these people to make stuff for no money? You want this all to just be a hobby? A lot of people put a LOT of work into this thing. They should be given the means for compensation for that work.
Also, do you want companies taking every video you put up down because it has music they own in it? Because if they have no way to make anything off it, they aren't going to want it here.
You're going to have to deal with the idea that people want to make money. Either that or go join USSRTube.
Its good apart from the fact the ads in the top right corner are still THERE! Its either one or the other.
i love youtube
Okay, im SO confused.. HAHA. Can we use music still ? I JUST MADE A VIDEO ABOUT INFRINGMENT, GAHH. Now I think I may have been wrong??
.,/,./,,/,.
Up until recently there was no alternative to MTV. YouTube changed the way music is listened to and explored, and you know it. Entertainment is becoming internet based, and while it shouldn't ALL be free, artists should absolutely have the choice to share their work free if they choose to. I've learned about so much new music and appreciate new bands by being able to watch music videos and live shows here on YouTube. I guess you gotta make money, but honestly, I will NEVER buy anything off of your site and I can't see many people doing so. I can find what I'm looking for if I look hard enough. Artist should be paying YOU to host their music videos because in this end this exposure makes them money.I know you had legal issues with a top record label and I don't blame you. I just don't think this is the best solution. I am very disappointed.
Great idea now i can buy my favorite songs.
This sounds Great! I'd like to Submit my channel for Video Games - We could help interesting and worthy games by encouraging Pre-orders or actual purchases! But if we are selling EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft games, would we get a cut of the revenue? Sort of a Affiliate program? In any case, I'd like to know more..
Great. Now please get this BS with Warner over with and get Metallica back on youtube. Also, metallicafx's channel needs to be restored; he had no copyright infringing videos that Warner is at all affected by.
When will ALL partners be able to use this feature?
This was a great idea. You are here listening to music and find stuff you like and then you can purchase it thru Itunes
http://youtube.com/watch?v=piXgSR3IEhU
I think this is a great idea and provides a way for people to support content creators by purchasing videos that they already enjoy. Yes, most people won't want to purchase a free video from youtube if they aren't invested in the success of the creator, but many people are, and for $.99 to easily support something they like, I think it will happen. I would love to try out this option, please select my producer account for testing.
my youtube account is "frangi"
Excellent blog post, Nice an excellent work
What is e-commerce
Nice work YouTube. Awesome. I think this kind of features online can help them to basically give better service. What about on Download Games? Can these be possible?
I think that it is not good to display adds at a left corner so is there any javascript for remove these adds from my youtube page.
