Delete Your Own Video Comments
We're happy to announce the launch of a feature many of you have been asking for. Now you have the ability to delete comments you've made on videos. We've all been there. Whether you misspelled "pwned", back in the day when you were just a n00b to the internets, or you simply said something you wish you could take back - now you can remove your commentary at any time.
The Abuse & Safety tool is here for you to resolve issues like harassment and bullying. This new feature will empower you to more easily and effectively handle these types of situations, without needing help from staff. Of course, we always encourage everyone to think things through before posting comments anywhere on the site. But if you don't get it right the first time, now you can simply delete your comment. To remove a comment that you've made, go to the "Text Comments" section below the video and click the "Remove" button next to your comment.

Can you add a time limit of say, five minutes before you can't delete/edit your comment, because there are a lot of debates that go on and then people will say "you said this" then that person may just delete their comment.
Please, add a time feature.

big fucking deal googletube..what you really need to do is REMOVE the option to mark peoples comments as spam on videos.that is easily abused and people who make non spam comments are marked as spam.it is up to the person who owns the video to make that decision you stupid moronic cocksucking whores:)now and that also happens on profile comments.

@aallalallalalaaa I have to agree, I got my OWN comments on my profile marked as spam, they just deleted my comment, not only that, the comment count stayed the same, so freaking annoying.
Thank you for adding this feature. This will encourage people to interact online in a manner more in line with personal preference.
I really like the spam feature. I have found that when others do not like a comment and find it offensive, they make a choice that is considerate of the next person who will see that page. I love reading positive feedback, I personally appreciate when people mark as spam something that I do not need to see.

this is off topic, but would like to point out that as a film student if I'm not mistaken amateur videos such as user creations on YouTube are protected from copyright laws. As there is no profit intent the videos supply word of mouth advertising.
Now you could delete this post which is great, but I just wanted to point out that a great deal of your users will be leaving your community if you feel your "Disable Audio" feature is necessary.

Please don't put a time limit, or at least one as short as five minutes, for the opportunity to delete comments. I sometimes find typos and factual errors in my comments (I do a lot of commenting on the subject of 1950s-early 1980s popular music), but sometimes it's a month or more after I posted them.

Without some kind of time limit, I cannot agree with this feature. I think that users should not have the ability to remove comments once that comment has been replied to.
This "feature" gives users the ability to be unaccountable for anything they say. I know that I for one will quote and re-post any comments that I receive, identifying the original poster.

A horrible feature that will be abused by tons of people. A simple 2-minute edit time limit would've done the trick, if it really were necessary.
Youtube seriously this is a horrible idea the way its currently setup. Especially on videos where heavy debate occurs. It is extremely annoying to see "comment deleted by author" in the middle of a argument thread. The whole re-write history thing is right. You all need to set a time limit on deleting a comment like DIGG and other sights do. Please take this into consideration. I've already seen one persons video where every other comment is deleted by author its just annoying.

This "feature" is brutal -- this renders all debate and conversation on YouTube useless -- accountability is gone.
This is destructive to your site. Please remove this feature as soon as possible. I like to communicate and debate on friendly terms but since the record of conversation can be changed and altered at will, it is worthless to debate.

I agree with brewhahh. This idea/feature is ill advised, and has not been thought thru. IMO, someone can post something inflamatory then after others reply? Delete it and make repliers look like they're nuts. It will also interrupt the flow of conversation in the comments section.

either completely remove this feature or make it optional for the creator of the video (with the default preferably being non-removable comments).

I don't think this is a good idea because it gets really confusing when people delete their own comments. Sometimes, you don't even know what the comment was!
Plus, YouTube is a place where people can share ideas and thoughts. People shouldn't be allowed to remove their comments.
If you're going to keep the self-comment removing, at least don't allow users to edit their comments. That would be very confusing!
Let's say someone said something good at first. And then, a person replies by saying, "Yes, I agree with you." But then, the person might just go back and edit their comment to something that is completely opposite. I hope you get my point. Don't allow self-editing!

Great feature, spammers have been using it a lot so they can wipe clean the first couple of pages of comments, and now you can't even report them for spamming. With the comment system being broken (I'm talking about comments past page two not being in chronological order, a problem m.youtube.com doesn't seem to have for some odd reason) you can't keep track of the discussion anymore.

I don't really see this feature as really necessary if people actually bothered to READ what they are planning to post instead of simply typing it all and clicking 'Post Comment' so hastily.It's actually making things alot harder.
Do yourself a favor and just take the time to read what you're about to post instead of clicking the 'Post Comment' button hastily as if you're about to die in 30 seconds.

I like it because even though I read my comments before I post, I still make spelling errors that end up messing up the whole comment. . Is it necessary to have the comment block remain and the Username present? It looks very messy like that and takes up comment space. I wouldn't mind seeing something completely removed and have it be removed, not "This comment has been deleted" Since that is something I don't need to know.

A window of 30-30 minutes to delete a posted comment would by my preference if something like this must be place.
This is an abomination. Now, people can remove comments that are against their point of views. Think of the Scientologists and conservatives deleting comments made by innocent people just trying to express themselves.
The Youtube comment boxes allow people to debate, and you just ruined everything

I'm sorry, this feature is pointless. It totally debases intelligent discourse, and has lowered the standard level of accountability on chained discussions. You could have spent the time and effort developing an OPTIONAL feature (toggled by the video submitter) to allow users to edit/delete/lock comments. I could code that for a site in a couple hours.... this is terribly lazy web software development and awful site-to-end-user communication.
You could have even developed a "Block" feature, that allows video submitters to build a list of users that are blocked from commenting on a specific video.
Or even an "ignore" feature, user(A) can comment rudely, but user(B) can gleefully ignore user(A) with ease. Each user has a list of ignored users. Comments from ignored users are hidden from the specific user that ignores them (or if added to a video's ignore list, not visible to any user). Thus, accountability and continuity of a dialog are preserved... youtube will be forward-thinking and ad-friendly.
Wow, so no one needs to hold accountability anymore for their trolling or stupidity? That's great! Thanks again for another inept feature YT.

I really like this new feature, but I have recently noticed that you guys have removed another one: the ability to show comments with many negative votes. Now you may think that this is a harmless improvement, but I personally enjoy reading some of these. If you could bring back this feature (as well as, if not ESPECIALLY--the center frame thumbnails algorithm) I would be very grateful! Thank you for reading.

I really can't believe this site and it's inane error messages. I c/p tags in my videos and I get this error message that I need at least one tag. If you think I'm going to type them in every time...you are crazy!

That tool is really helpful, although I agree with SporeDotCam. It's really, really annoying when you want to delete one of your comments and it says "Comment removed by author". Why not just introduce a tool that deletes the comments completely? You don't have to be able to "re-publish" your comments.. If that would be the case for anyone, they could just rewrite it. But besides that, thanks for a great site :)
