Multi-Video Upload Arrives
Have a hard drive full of new videos? With the YouTube Uploader, we've
now made it easier to get them all live on the site. This small piece
of software lets you upload multiple videos to YouTube at the same
time; each video can be up to 10 minutes in length and up to 1GB in
size. That's right, no more compressing to 100MB - we want your big
files!
Right now the YouTube Uploader is only available for Windows PCs but
we're cooking up a Mac version too. To get started, just go to the
installer webpage and download the software. Then you'll be able to
access the Multifile Upload page and start your, well, uploading.
These videos will be available in My Videos after they have finished
processing. (Note: it may take 30 minutes or more for extremely large
files to appear on your page.) We link to the Multifile Upload page
from today's single file upload page so you can always find your way
back.

Well, allowing for larger files is good (even though I don't think I will ever try to upload a 1GB video). I probably won't use the Multi-Upload feature, but it's a good idea.

I love this, I mean I do make all my videos smaller for here so they won't take as long to upload but i am gonna have to see if the quality will look way better on a bigger file, avi here I come :)

Quality looks great at 100mb..the harsh flash conversion does not. Does uploading larger files help the flash conversion somehow? Why not just set the conversion to a higher setting in flash?

Considering that a 10-minute video is around 25mb when you're done compressing it, I have never seen the 100mb part as the bottleneck of the 100/10 formula. It's nice to be able to upload several videos, though, I guess. - Has anybody looked at this thing from a technical perspective yet? Software from a Google company... it's so hard to believe that it is not in some way evil...

There's no point increasing the file size to 1 gig if youtube still:
1.Limit to 10 minutes in length
2.Encode back stereo sound to mono..
What we want
If we uploaded files in .Flv format (let say below 640x 480 @ 400kbps and stereo sound @ 128kbps ) youtube should retain the files as the original without re-encoding the video files. Pls, pls pls retain the stereo sound .... So many musicians out there want their music to be listened as intended......
It's a good thing that we now have 1 gig, it will allow us to upload better quality videos.
I also would have a recommendation on an other topic, Could you add a search function on the "my message", I keep all my messages and sometime It could be interesting to see what was say before, a long time ago to a specific user. When you have as many message as I do, it easily get out of control.
As for the previously spamed video game thing, It would be nice to have that section back indeed. Video gamer now feel like second class citizens.
I also noticed that on audio swapped videos there is now google adds, the revenue from them probably goes to labels, while I do agree that we use their material, they now make money on our back. It would be interesting if there was reciprocity between them and the video creator since we use each other material for a common goal.
The site IPTVRecipes.com has been doing this since their launch! Multi-file uploads, all 'sewn' together to make a seamless presentation, and up to 1 GB of space PER recipe. 5 minutes?? Sure, toast anyone? :)
The days of 100MB and 5-10 minute uploads are long gone (though MANY verticals and most/all horizontals still force this) -- let the user decide :)

Nothing helps in upload a file with 10000kbits/s (depeding on length easy 1GByte) and then you compress so much.

dunno if this has anything to do with things, but everything i try to do on youtube that's not static - ie. adding friends, changing channel settings, adding favorite... it's all not working. Or maybe it is but dreadfully slow. Everything's still loading here.. it's been doing that until it times out. Only static operations load up.

It sounds great. I am wondering with the 1GB if the quality will still be the same? I know the flash conversion is pretty low quality, does the 1 GB help bump that up?
I believe the question has already been asked, but I'll ask again. With the increase in file size, will you be decreasing the amount of compression you use in conversion? I've uploaded 640x480 videos, some DivX encoded and some in wmv format, that are visually perfect in their original form, only to see the video quality reduced to garbage by the 320x240 Flash conversion and compression. If we could upload at your *exact* player window size, which is substantially larger than 320x240, and have them *not* crushed and pixellated to death by the conversion process, the video results would be *much* more pleasing to view and much more satisfying to us as the uploaders. -- Moosie

i'm presuming that the increase to 1Gb is only to allow us to upload some vids without having to go through an encoder. i loaded the fancy uploader and sent a high-res copy of a video i already had posted (newly uploaded file 550Mb v. 60 Mb). the bigger upload is the same crappy pixilated flash copy when viewed on YT as the small one, AND my widescreen presentation was squeezed and distorted.
so please let us know via the blog what your intention was. if it was to save time, well . . . it is much quicker to encode to a small size than to wait for a half-gig to upload (and i'm on a T-1 line, not dialup!).
the multi-load function might be worthwhile, but i tend to load as i create, so it's not been of use to me yet.

All these lovely new changes and improvements are wonderful, but the system is dreadfully slow and has been for days and days.
