TONIGHT: THE CNN/YOUTUBE DEBATE!
On July 23, at 7 p.m. ET on CNN, you get to make political history in the first CNN/YouTube Debate. Live from Charleston, South Carolina, all eight Democratic presidential candidates on the You Choose '08 platform will answer the questions you've submitted through videos right here on YouTube. (Here's a sneak peek at what the debate set will look like, including the giant screen that will feature your videos.)
Thousands of you have submitted your questions for the Democratic contenders. You've moved yourselves into the center of the political dialogue, and the candidates for the U.S. presidency have been listening. Now they're ready to tackle your questions on LIVE television; questions like these:
We hope you'll tune in tonight (again, that's 7 p.m. ET on CNN), but in case you miss it, you'll be able to see all the debate footage right here immediately following the debate. We encourage you to continue the dialogue by responding to the candidates' answers with your videos. The world is watching.
Yours,
Steve G.

Good Quality this video How you did?
Wish the contest had made clear things like:
a) when (if ever) will you notify the winners that they won?
b) how the heck can people win the "chance to travel" to the debates, if you're not picking the winner until the morning of?
Very excited about tonight... thanks for including my video in your collage. =)
I am surprised we can not watch the debate itself streamed on youtube. I would suggest that you stream the Republican debate comming up.
Man, too many questions here suck the canidates dicks and give them talking points. I hope that youtube and CNN pick some real questions.
its a really amazing idea,
rite now to win they will answer our questions, but is there any guarantee tat any of the candidate will do something about or help solve their problems.i have just completely lost trust in them
we already have one guy who won by popularity and promised so much.
look wat he has done.
Sick and tired of all the "Harry Potter" hype? Well then, watch the next episode of "My Drunken Dad". He rants about how hot J.K Rowling is, and how gay Harry Potter is portrait in the films and books. Also..adresses all the nerd who wait in line to buy the book. CLICK HERE:

most voters are to stupid to ask real questions. that's why we had Bush for 8 years
Thank you youtube and Cnn for having these REAL questions. The ones we really want to know about.
I am a white American FOR reparations to people in America of African descent. I can't believe only one candidate thinks we have a moral obligation to right this historic wrong that continues to go on... the enslavement of AFricans and it's aftermath in the USA.
We can't move forward and truly change until we right this wrong.
Youtube Debate:
I cannot believe that out of all the important issues that were touched upon, why was the issue of abortion not brought up? How can an issue with such importance, and such diverse viewpoints, be neglected?
Beyond that, it was VERY good.

Congratulations to CNN and to the Democratic candidates. It was a fully informative and entertaining evening. We feel good about all the candidates--a group of winners.
I have been listening to this debate for 10 mins and have heard:
Someone call in and drop the "f bomb".
Someone say if Obama is in the White House they will be listening to rap music and playing basketball.
Someone say they wouldn't vote for Obama because his middle name is Hussein.
Is anyone else scared that we let the general public vote? My only hope is these morons actually stay home and don't vote, or I honestly can't see a woman or minority in the White House. It is really sad...

My thoughts exactly. At least link us to the CNN live stream.
This debate was a joke. Unexcusable slant and bias to specific candidates based on time and number of questions directed to a few candidates did not allow the candidates equal time or in a lot of cases ANY time to answer important questions. If you want to improve the product ask the most important questions and let all candidates answer them or speak to the topic or don't invite them for your exclusion. As regards the companion CNN broadcast you should be broadcasting the video the candidates are watching so that the viewers know what the candidates saw; pictures of the candidates turned head don't help the television viewer see the video. Hope you do better with the Republican debate.

I liked the youtube debate. I mean yeah they pick them, but every one of us could have a voice on youtube. I have my own videos, and I urge anyone who has anything to show, say to use the medium available. We all can't be on television, so its a place where you have a small voice.
I think I finally heard from politicians "unpopular" or things that I wanted to hear. I don't think that the new President if say a Democrat will change my life dramatically, but any progress is progress. The Democrats have many more candidates who could be president, but the funny thing is, the frontrunners for both parties have things against them... Hillary would be the 1st woman. Barack the first black president. Guiliani has pics of him dressed as women, McCain and the other Republican have been divorced a total of 5 times, which is considered "not so conservative."
so how wud they be elected ,let us know jatremblay .
and is it wrong to listen to rap music & play basketball.
why rite now u must listening 50 cent or some other black rapper.
u really racist my man tat u don't like to see a women or minority in the white house.
so its really sAd tat u think like tat.
Can you imagine for one moment, how powerful the US could be against our enemies, if we could stop fighting amongst ourselves, democrats vs republicans, and focus all our energies on defeating the enemy. If news media could be honest about their reporting, and not try to polarize themselves into broadcasting only democratic opinions, we could help make America free from fear once again. This should not be a political war. Examine your motives honestly.
i think hands down our next president will
be Hillary Clinton.

I'm certainly in agreement that there is truly bias in all the debates AND in the news reports. We are over a year away from the election, yet the only candidates we hear from or about are the FRONTRUNNERS. Doesn't anyone listen to the others and what they have to say. No, wait -- I forgot, they didn't really get equal time to answer the questions the frontrunners get to answer. I personally think Dennis Kucinich is a very smart man with very honest ideas. I liked him in the last election because I listened to what he had to say -- even though he wasn't a frontrunner. Why does the media choose who is important enough to listen to? Make it fair. Let everyone answer each question instead of only the choice few.
What a bunch of bull crap... we know that CNN fished these questions for the most friendly and left leaning. None of these questions posed were challenging or even could send one of these candidates off balance to their talking points. I even bet the candidates themselves got to give input on what questions they wanted... it certainly wouldn't surprise me with CNN. This did nothing to change anyone's view I think... the polls on 'who won' this debate closely match how each candidate stands within the democratic party and I'm sure republicans were disgusted by it - so this was just political show, nothing more.
Very interesting, indeed. -Matthew Cepican A&R Vesuvius Records

Why do you think that what Bush is doing is wrong? Perhaps things have turned wrong for him but it was the Democrats who first said that Saddam had nuclear weapons and that we must stop him. They were in power then. How quickly we forget.
And what would the Democrats have done after 9/11???????????????
I live close to a marine base. Every soldier that comes back can not wait to return to Iraq because they believe completely that what they are doing is necessary to save america.
Just unfair
All of this live, instantaneous commenting, reacting, judging, attacking, defending, parsing, sniping and analyzing is what is wrong with public and political discourse in these times. Thoughtful, considered opinions are the rarity. How about we all listen carefully to the candidates, watch their speeches, read their positions, study their backgrounds, consider their policies, understand their motivations, recognize their attributes and THEN offer our supporting or opposing judgments?
Working in the entertainment industry, I haven't been a fan of You Tube. It hurts our business to have our work uploaded for free. HOWEVER, tonight this powerful new medium showed it could be a catalyst for change. Historic, ground-breaking and it actually seemed to make political candidates responsible to the American people. THIS IS THE FUTURE!! I actually feel hopeful for the first time in the last 6 years!!!! If nothing else, you feel like someone listened for once.
Thank you,
Peggy O'Rourke
As I read these comments, I see , besides a need for spell check, a feeling that the debate was not fair in issues of equal time. Of course, some people get more time then others, they're considered frontrunners, and some people make better use of their time. Before tonight's debate, I was hands down for Hilary, but based on what I saw tonight, I would gladly cast my vote for any one of these candidates. In the past I would tune out during the debates, but the feeling of being included, and of having our voices heard, is a light at the end of a very dark 8 year tunnel. Shine on You Tube !!!!!

CNN missed the boat in selecting the question to Hilary which asked how a woman president would deal with Muslim leaders, presuming they are all male. Anybody remember Benazir Bhutto? Pakistan, a Muslim nation, has already had it's first woman president, while the U.S. is still thinking about it. And former President Bhutto is thinking about running again, if ever the U.S. stops supporting the current military strongman/dicatator, Musharif.
i thought the debate was very interesting with YouTube. the questions that were asked of the candidates were fair. although the gentleman who asked about gun rights and then held up his assault gun frankly scared me. i think future debates should be in this format.
One question no body bothered to ask was: If you're elected who will really be running the Us you or your husband? He did after all address the two term length and what could be done to extend it to a third.
Obama is the next Carter no ifs ands or butts. So what we have is a Clinton/Carter ticket with Bill and Obama at the helm. So not only will we see higher taxes we will also see horrible national relations. Remember who put the Ayatollah Khomeini in power after he turned his back on the Shaw of Iran, yes your faithful idiot peanut farmer and should have stayed a farmer Carter the worst president ever.
Have you stood in line worry about weather or not you'd actually get fuel for your vehicle?
How about inflation, are your mortgage rates in the high double digits like 18~23 percent?
How about unemployment?
In the 7 years of Bush we have enjoyed the stock market soar without fake dot com companies like Clinton's era. Our interest rates have stayed historically low and our inflation has stayed low. Our unemployment has stayed low.
Our safety as well as our allies has increased due to our involvement in targeting the terrorists.
We are soon to forget the path that needs to take place in order to prevail. I doubt very much the families of the 3000 plus killed on 9/11 have forgotten them we shouldn't either.
Carter tried diplomacy with the hostages, Reagan brought them home. One could deduce that although Carter seems to be a historical figure or worthy mention, he still defies all logic as to why he was ever elected other than the ignorance of the left.
What we have no is the same situation.
The dems are still not over the 2000 and 2004 election. Despite whatever republican president is in office any well-to-do benefits during a republican time in office cannot be of his doing because he is a republican.
Now where is the logic in that?
I think it was a good format and had a good interchange between the candidates, but IMHO the questions were prescreened by the candidates; the responses were too orchestrated to be off-the-cuff remarks. In the future, I would hope that the candidates will be seeing the videos for the first time WHILE the debate is in progress.
Plus, also IMHO, the candidates didn't really get equal time; Hillary, Edwards and Obama got the majority of the questions and followup responses while DK and Gravel got very minimal time to share their views. In future debates, I would hope that questions that haven't been asked of specific candidates would get directed to the lesser known candidates.
Another point was that the guidelines for the questions said the videos should be 30 seconds or less-- and many of the selected videos were well over a minute in length.
Please, it was the same old Democrat "GIVE AWAY THE BANK" routine. Every one of the idiots had some sort of spending program for "give-aways". What happened to the saying of J.F.K., "ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country"?????? Huh?
Enjoyable. Some good info but mostly tried and true. Joe Biden makes good sense but seems to get little response.
What is politicions going to do with China and there counterfeit world? Infecting almost everybody with fake everything? Builing empire to be, will become future next SUPER POWER
please let MSNBC do the debates next time this was awful!!!!its great if youre 18! but thats it!
inapart11 what are the big corporations and the ceo's that take multi-millions doing for our country? Oh yah i remember they buy jet planes and have severai laviah homes to help the economy.

It’s great that so many young people got online for these debates. Another cool thing that’s happening is the What’s Your Plan? campaign—where young people are hitting the campaign trail to talk face to face with all of the Presidential candidates about issues that are important to them. Young people are asking one simple question: What’s Your Plan? To stop global warming. To make a college education affordable. To provide effective, affordable health care. To address financial security for Americans. Already they’ve had 35 face to face conversations with the candidates in California, Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina—including: Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Duncan Hunter, John Cox, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, John McCain, Tommy Thompson, Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, Hillary Clinton, Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee and Joe Biden. For more information go to www.whats-your-plan.org. What’s Your Plan? is a project of the Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project and affiliated youth organizations.
