'Tis the season to decorate: Make your YouTube Channel a home for the holidays and beyond!

With the holidays upon us, many of you are busy decorating your homes to get into the spirit of the season. What better time to bring this decorative mood to your home on YouTube — your Channel — and help your audience to get more into your videos?

As part of the announcement last week of our new look, we unveiled Channel layouts to help you better showcase your videos. Since this announcement, we’ve been encouraged by data showing logged in usage and subscriptions on the rise. So, we’re moving forward to bring the new YouTube to more of you. Starting this week, all newly created and existing basic Channels will be transitioned to the new design. YouTube Partners can opt into the new design at any point, but their Channels will not be automatically transitioned at this point. When you visit “My Channel” on YouTube, you’ll see your Channel in the new design, and the “Edit Channel” button that’s your gateway to exploring the various layouts. Here are some pointers to help you get started:

1. Fill your feed with great videos: Are you sharing your likes, favorites and subscriptions? Publishing these activities to your feed will keep your Channel fresh with new entertaining videos, even when you’re not uploading videos.

2. Feature your very best content: Have videos or playlists you want to showcase? Add the featured tab to your Channel and choose a template that works best for you. You can do this in just a few clicks -- get started by clicking “Edit Channel.”

3. Write a unique description: Create a description that tells your visitors what to expect from your Channel. Click the “Edit” button in the top right corner of your Channel. You can also add links to Facebook, Twitter and other websites.

4. Share the love: Our viewers look to you for great videos on YouTube. Give the gift of your suggestions by adding the "Other Channels" feature, and encourage other Channel owners to do the same.

Many YouTube Channels have already made the switch, and we’re hoping you’ll join them. You’ll receive the new Channels design over the next few days. Play with the templates and design options to make your channel the most inviting home for your audience. Remember, you can always switch back to the old design by clicking the “Switch back” button in the Appearance tab should you need more time to get your Channel ready for primetime.

We can’t wait to see what you do with your place!

The new design sucks big time. Loose a lot of control over the way the channel looks. Don't make us use the new design!!!!!!

the new design is cool but without channel's comments block is not very useful, finally I've switched back to the old design.

And how to get the old homepage back? That was a LOT more pratical, and where i could see the last 3, 4 or 5 videos posted by my subscriptions?

Will the new design ever have "advaced options" added like the "old" one, so we can adjust Transparency and link colors, etc.?

That was what let us "personalize" our channel's look. The new layout options may be good, but the personalization or Design capability of the old is missed.

Is there a time coming when we HAVE to change to the New and can't go back to the Old design? The text on this page seems to hint it is coming (i.e. new channels only get the new design).

i like it but make the channels more customizable like colors and transparency.

The new homepage is fine but I want them to friends list on youtube, which oddly enough we no longer see 'TNX.

I am very dissatisfied with the new design of the channels. I don't understand how this hideous gray block is an upgrade from the current design where we can customize the color to our taste and the transparency so our background may show. I'd prefer to close my account than to use this design. I won't close since I'm an uploader, but I'm going to hide my channel. This gray cube is an eyesore.

New channel design is crap! New homepage is crap!

I'm so disappointed with this, it no longer displays friends or subscribers. The social parts have been ripped out, I find myself spending less time on here since people have started using this. Please don't force this on us!

THE NEW DESIGN IS ROBOTIC, STERILE, DYSFUNCTIONAL AND CONSUMMATELY UGLY. We are not robots, but customers of the ads Youtube needs and wants to sell. We don't mind that, but when you tyrannically take away our individuality and instead impose the institutionalized STERILE BLACK AND WHITE garbage you call 'design', we feel like John Hurt in 1984. Why not make us all wear Mao jackets, too?

And then you impose on the customer the forced posting in the bulletin of uploads. You make the playlist editing more dysfunctional, never fix playlists so that they can be alphabetically viewed by the viewer -- so your PAYING PARTNERS' videos are harder to find and view.

Someone at Youtube is costing Youtube valuable time and money by all his stupid 'design' ideas. Were I the CEO of Youtube, I'd fire that person. Thoughtlessness of customer freedom will cost you. Someone will compete eventually, and then Youtube will never get the customer back.
