That is cool. I know how to code. But not like YouTube. I am only 17 (18 in January) also. I only know some basic PHP and a lot of HTML. I do know how to create dynamic sites. I even own one. But YouTube I know is mindbogglingly complex. I wish I knew how to do what they do. I can only do a fraction of what YouTube does. I do plan on being a web designer as a career though. So maybe some day I might know what they know. I have been teaching myself php, css, and html for the past 2 years after I had a beginners class in high school. The funny thing is that know when I talk to my old teacher about web design I know more than they do! Ha. I love it.
When? How? Where?

Web Designer/Developer here But No way am I even close to these guys :P
An engineer at YouTube, one of the leading cool cutting edge Internet companies today -- if the ability to get a job like that actually existed, it would seem to me a kind of fantasy fulfillment that could only occur in some parallel universe.
So, when I read, "Think you have what it takes to join the ranks?", the answer is an obvious -- no. I would end up embarrassing myself for applying -- pwned and probably jock-blocked at every effort.
Although I've mastered the xhtml/css/javascript document object model standard (including implementing the ajax XHtmlRequest calls, creating my own objects, etc.) it's really client-side design and not the stuff required of engineers; which includes being able to program the server-side in python or java or php or old school cgi -- stuff that I've fooled around with some limited success.
Since I'm not a brash newb with a lot a charisma and nerve in a position to be an intern, the closet I'll ever get to this situation is from making a comment like this one on this blog.:/ :)(What kind of chance would someone else have after reading this and failing to understand what was just said?)
There seems to be many companies that are unable to find web developers/engineers, especially when they are looking for job experience. My advice for these companies is to hire those who are graduating from colleges/universities who have studied in the I.T.

I have no freakin idea how to edit HTML stuff, but if you paid me 10 bucks an hour, I would watch videos all day long lolz
Maybe if you hire an engineer who actually has an idea what he/she is doing then maybe you could FINALLY fix the billions of bugs plaguing the site.
i take it they just get round to fire there worker :) i hope we get some one that really skill.

HELLO YouTube...
I've been trying to find a place to ask a question, or make a request for a change and this looks like just as good a place as any...
I WOULD LIKE to be able to upload all my Gmail contacts into a friend finder on youtube and invite all my contacts to connect through YouTube as a social networking type of thing.
i jus not understood the point of this post... O.o
everybody knows that youtube is trying to take the best engineers of the world. So why put this post?? Just to leave WE with our imagination to one day work at google?? OHH Come ON!!!
