Looking Back on 9/11 in Remembrance and Service

Today, in honor of 9/11, many Americans are using YouTube to share their stories and forge connections with fellow citizens. Some, like this user, are hoping to create community by uploading their experiences from the day, and encouraging fellow YouTube users to do the same. Others are speaking out in remembrance of loved ones they lost eight years ago:

At the same time, other citizens are choosing to commemorate 9/11 through service. Today marks the first official "9-11 Day of Service," a nationally-recognized event that aims to capture the sense of unity and compassion among Americans that followed September 11, 2001. Learn more about the initiative here:

Tens of thousands of volunteers are expected to turn out to paint and refurbish homes, run food drives, improve schools, reclaim neighborhoods, and support and honor veterans and first responders as part of the Day of Service. To learn more about the effort, click here or to find a service event near you, please visit www.allforgood.org.

Thank you for sharing these. It is a very solemn time and it is great when people turn something intended for evil, into something good. It still hurts, but at least those lives weren't lost in vain.

Mere words are hard for me to express what is really on my heart. I apologize if this comes across any other than with total love and respect for those who have died and those that survived.

The 9-11 Day of Service is a beautiful way of demonstrating American unity and compassion.

To anyone who says that the American government was behind 9/11, why did the Osama bin Ladin admit that he was behind the attacks?

Richard said...

Because he was told to? Because he wanted attention to himself for his own agendas unrelated to the incident?

While there may or may not be a legitimate debate if it was a inside job, what really matters is that that day, things changed.

I've used Google since its inception. I love it. But yesterday they refused, again, to commemorate 911. Enough.
Yesterday I cancelled my gmail and changed my search and homepage to Bing. And I will encourage everyone I come in contact with to do the same. Short of an apology to the American people, I will NEVER use google again.

"okayyyyyyy one; it wasn't an inside job. jeez." - Riggggghhhhht. Ooookayyy. It obviously takes more than the average intellect to come to the conclusion that 9/11 was planned and orchestrated by the US gov. Calling people names is just a fear based reaction to something you do not understand. Now go back to your soda, McD's, fox news and fluoride enhanced water please. jeez.

Why did Youtube take down the Immortal Technique video about 9/11? Yes, it's a conspiracy theory. But it's also FREE SPEECH, an ideal that I thought Youtube tried to support. It's very dangerous to begin filtering political content. What's the explanation youtube?

Don't believe me? here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kjL2KKil20

And here's the actual video at Metacafe: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3203428/tell_the_truth_mos_def_immortal_technique_eminem/

If some one at Youtube could respond as to why they took down this video I'd appreciate it.

I remember a co-worker walking up to me that day and saying, "We need to find out why they hate us so much." I replied "No we don't. They hate us because our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values and they wish to exterminate every Jew and Christian in the world."

Robby Borton is dillusional and full of crazed hatred. I bet he supports removing Joe Wilson from Congress due to his "You lie" outburst on the Chamber floor. Hypocrite.
