Release Notes: 6/18/09
Lately, the team has been pushing out features and fixes as they're ready in "mini-pushes" rather than waiting for the big, numbered releases that occur once a month. Here's what's gone out in the last few weeks:
* The Wonder of "Wonder Wheel": Next time you search for a video on YouTube you may notice a link on the right-hand side of the page labeled "Wonder Wheel." This is a new beta search option from Google.com, which we think has some cool potential as a way to navigate the vast range of videos on YouTube. You may have seen "also try" suggestions at the top of search results. Now we are letting you navigate across those suggestions graphically. Wonder Wheel displays searches related to the one you are searching like spokes on a wheel, allowing you to explore different search suggestions quickly. You can click on any of the wheel's spokes to see a new wheel with more related topics and browse new relevant video results to the right. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
* Improved Advanced Search: Let's say you want to narrow down your search for a video and be more precise about what you're looking for. Advanced Search allows you to specify many more details than our normal search, including when a video was uploaded, the location it came from, and its length. We've reworked Advanced Search to be easier to use and to better reflect the range of content on YouTube (lots of new stuff!).
* Remaining Time Display on Upload Progress Bar: In April, we launched the new progress bar with our Flash uploader. We added a small enhancement to the UI to show the estimated remaining time based on your file size and internet bandwidth. We hope this will give you a bit more info about the status of your upload.
* Download MP4 Files of Your Own Videos: Oh no! Your computer just crashed and you lost the original files of videos uploaded to YouTube. Don't panic. Find the video you want in "My Videos" and hit the "Download MP4" button to save the MP4 file of the video to your computer. You can download videos recorded with your webcam, too.
* A More TV-Like Experience: We recently launched a feature that hides the player control bar when you are in full screen for a more immersive, TV-like experience. (Speaking of which, read our blog post about YouTube XL for more about optimizing YouTube on large screens.) You can also "pop out" any video by clicking on the button in the top right corner, right above the video. The video will open in a new window, without any of the surrounding features or videos, for the simplest possible experience. (Please note: this feature won't work when embedding has been disabled by the uploader.)
* Mobile App in Six New Languages: A few months ago, we launched an all-new YouTube Mobile Application for fast, high-quality video streaming on Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 phones. Just two days ago, we released the App in French, UK English, Italian, Spanish, German and Dutch. To install it in your language, please visit m.youtube.com/app.

I like the Wonder Wheel. Suggestion: add a "More" link to get new options for the "spokes" if none of the ones match what you are looking for. But other than that, it looks good!

Can you fix the linking to a specific time? Adding #t=1m22 doesn't work anymore.
i don't think the "tv expirence" is completely necessary. cool features though.
we should be able to download other videos too. that would be very convenient and no one would have to use add-ons anymore
I like the idea and functionality of Wonder Wheel, but i think it could be more colourful and a little bit better visually designed.
i find Wonder Wheel very useful. nice job on that. it just need little more to pick from. -.-
wonderllama4: you can if that user own all is video and give a ok out to user to use. happycabbie just did a video not to long ago on that. just look it up.
I am still having issues with my inbox.
When I click to delete a message, it does'nt delete unless I refresh the page.
You forgot to mention that you added a "watch this video in new window" button to every video.

I think I've finally figured it out...
1. YouTube is always pushing out new updates that they think are cool, but doesn't mean a thing to members.
2. Said updates have created an erray of bugs and glitches through-out the site that members asked to be fixed, which YouTube won't for some reason...
3. Members post their concerns, suggestions, and feedback for YouTube to read, but they don't.
Basically, YouTube is in this for themselves, and doesn't listen to it's people... that only means one thing... YouTube is run by a bunch of Republicans!
Yah, I rather have a better commenting system in place then these features I'm not going to use anyway.
Also, a better feedback system if a video or user is blocked because of some idiotic reason.
How about fixing a bug in HQ videos where if I skip to a part later, it just starts playing from the beginning again?

I mean some HD videos won't play right for me even if I got the HD feature off, but it must be my computer graphics card. I really need to get a new one.

I have just one problem, and it's probably just a small bug that will get fixed soon, but a lot of things with youtube are like that and they still haven't been fixed. The problem that I have is on my background, the panel transparency is always solid. The backgrounds that I make for my and other peoples' youtube channels require the panels to be transparent. Now mine, and everyone else that I have made a background for's channel has been messed up. PLEASE FIX THIS YOUTUBE!!!!
Yah... Are you going to fix the frozen view count problem yet... come on it has been happening for months now and sorry if you are having some troubles with it but if you don't find a temp fix people will leave youtube for good...

ability to re-download your own video is good but MP4 no i dont like it. Maybe a free format. You guys should let CC (Creative Commons) videos to be on Youtube and let you choose from the my videos once uploaded. A better thing to fix will be better commenting system i mean when i get an email of a reply when i click the link it does not show me the same spot of the reply or even my own comment so i need to dig in to 1000 comments to find it.
Re-download your own video is good but MP4 ...i dont like it. Maybe a free format.....
i have 1 problem..when i chk the comments at my comment section..after i chke them all its still showing new.....try to fix that....
Please add the advanced search to the homepage.
Also, I would like to be able to search the map without using the advanced search button. The "show map" button should be separate from the advanced search or in addition to the advanced search.
When viewing my search results, I would like to read the entire video description without having to click on the video. I would like see a "more . . ." button next the the video description so that the description expands to allow me to read the entire video description from the search results page.

How's about you stop adding useless updates (the only update I find usefull here is the time remaining when uploading a video) is to give us are stupid bulletins. EH?

It would be nice if you would fix the inbox problems that occur in Internet Explorer. You've only had two and a half months to do it and yet you waste your time adding a bunch of mostly useless new "features".

As much as I love new features, I can only fully enjoy them when previous features on the site have been fixed.
I suggest, and I think a speak for many when I say, It's best if you fix the glitches/problems you have in extisting features (such as the inbox and channel editing) before you release new content. You might be working on them right now, but if that's the case please let the community know that you're working on fixing the bugs so we can all calm down and stop telling you to =)
What happened to the "opt out" of the horrible query suggestions in advanced settings. I resent having to look at what the mass mind thinks I'm looking for. Is is somewhere else? This is crazy. Bring it back. Don't go down that path to mediocrity
The inbox problems appear to be fixed now for Internet Explorer. Thanks for fixing it.
The "Download MP4" button will only let me download one of my videos then it disappears,dont really need the thing but is something wrong on my end or is this the way it works,just so I will have to buy the option?? giggy....

Feedback about the new channel layout. It is great. Only 1 comment: menu below the main video is not well displayed (where are the links to comments, favorites, myspace and so on). Regards and thank you for improve all the time!
The hiding of player controls would be really nice if it didn't hide if the cursor was over the controls. Certain videos to pause steps, while full screen...becomes frustrating task.

There are people having trouble with their inbox. This involves the inbox telling you that you have unread messages, but not actually having them physically existent.

WHY THE MEDIA LIES... Yeah, why does the media tell lies on certain people. I know, it must be because they have No Real News most of the time, & they are mostly a "Fake" ... They especially like to go after and attack Very Successful, & Very Popular Black People! Like, Hummmm., (MIchael Jackson)? Yep. The True King of All Music Entertainment ! No Wonder the man died, he just couldn't take No More.. even now that Michael Jackson is dead, some of the people in the media are still trying to trash the man about stuff that obviously was never poven to be true! M.j. was not a drug user to get high, Elvis Was!!! & M.j. also can ner be brought down, even as a dead man. No one before or after Michael Jackson will be able to touch his status and his level of success in the MUSIC BUZZ! No Matter what lie's the media tell on him. thats one black man you still can't (BEAT IT)...!

I definitely don't like a couple of the new updates.
-Need to add the "view by" option back to the advanced search choices. Now I have to do 2 actions to view the newest videos first where before I could just choose that from the advanced options set.
-The player control bar disappears to quickly. It's hard to pause a video in sequences when the control bar keeps disappearing on me. Either that or create an option for us to set the disappear time or create a way for us to watch a video in slo-mo.
I also 2nd that notion for the "search favorites" option.
great to see mobile apps are in different languages....more and more making Youtube a global platform
