Won't You Adopt a Feature?
Raise your hand if you've watched a YouTube video. Cool, the "play" button definitely works but that's just the start of where the YouTube experience can begin. Every week we release new tools, or enhancements to current ones, to help you make better videos, connect with one another, and understand your audience. We tell you about them in this blog, but now we want to take it up a notch and ask you to (puppy-dog eyes) adopt a feature.
It's not to say that the features on the list below are unloved or unlovable; it's just that we believe that many of you could help spread the word more broadly about their usefulness -- and, more important, in a way that's fun to watch.
So here's how it would work:
1. Select one or more features from the list below.
2. Make a video about that feature (of course, it must adhere to our Terms of Service) and be sure to use the precise tags we've indicated for each feature.
3. We'll start tracking how your videos are impacting that feature's performance and offer a play-by-play in this blog, notating which users are making the greatest impact with their videos. Our first update will be two weeks from today, March 17, so get cracking!
4. The most successful video(s) will be featured on our home page and live for all eternity in our Help Center, and you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you helped the feature live a long and productive life.
And with that, here are some features that could use your loving touch:

Sounds pretty cool, especially if the video I create stays on the Youtube homepage for others to see. I wonder, is there a deadline for this video upload, or has this already ended?

Does anybody knows why i can`t watch some videos on you tube?it`s mostly music video clips for wich i know that they are on tube but every time i try to watch it i either get the message "this video is not available in your country"or they just don`t show up in search results.does anybody have any idea how i can overide this problem?

its nice to have people to volunteer a help video for those features above, but what about someone to volunteer help videos on how to customize the channel. I have been trying to find a help video on how to make my feature video auto-play, and as of yet, have not found anyone or any help videos to help in this matter

id do quickcapture but quickcapture doesnt work for me...gets cut short
I think when you upload a video you should be able to lock it from the public but allow it to be clicked on through an annotation, so for example, on interactive videos you cannot cheat. :D

I think it might be beneficial to include the Quicklist feature. I don't think most people know about that.

I think little features like the ones mentioned above are irrelevant when people like me are being harassed all day every day. work on the feature of being able to IP block someone who insists on creating 50+ user accounts in an attempt to harass.

how about a feature to replace the video file, so if you feel like changing something in your video you dont have to delete it and lose all of your views. i think this would be VERY helpful, ive had a lot of times where i made a mistake in my video and didnt even realize till like a day after it was already uploaded and i already had a lot of comments from my friends.
I've had an account with u 4 some time now and i was wondering on the videos if u could put a repeat option on there so u can repeat songs like "repeat one" and "repeat all"

My comment is that the video playback quality of "HQ" videos on this site has made them unwatchable. Whatever you guys did to the system, PLEASE fix it---or lots of people are going to leave.

I like how you put a "watch in high quality" or "watch in HD" button in the video control bar. That way, we can watch a video in high quality or HD when we're not even on the video's main page. Thanks, Google and YouTube. A bunch of the other new features, like the collaborative annotations and the way you can delete your own video comments are also good to.

Interesting, but like others have said, us small users won't get a lot of views. And I never had problems with my subscriptions until just now when I logged on. Every video that appeared as new was one I'd already seen except for 1. Can they try to fix that?
RSS it's a mess. I get vids from 2007 marked as new. Would be nice if you could fix it.

I found this video offensive as it seems to indirectly promote porn. The dialog and story line was - in it's entirety - lame. It is however a prime example of the declining morals in this country, and in the world as a whole.
Subscription begging is the lamest thing ever. If you post good content people will subscribe on their own.
AudioSwap is lame because you lose all the spoken dialog in your video.
Hi youtube, is it okay to make a feature request here? when browsing "recent videos", the video list should change everytime I refresh. there is no need for 5 pages there, but just show me different videos on each refresh. please and thank you!

This is a cool idea - I just wish us smaller YouTubers has as much of a chance as the big YouTubers. LisaNova's video for example would get over 100,000 views if she just taped herself sneezing, while the rest of us would get excited at passing 1000 views.

How about putting ratings back under the videos (at /browse section), you rooster vacuuming coders.
There's much to be seen with stuff like this. I have used audio swap a few times. i have used play list quick capture and subscriptions. it makes Youtube fun.

baldac01, it's not meant to be fair.
It's meant for Youtube and it's partners to nurture their symbiotic relationship.
They could have tapped someone of more moderate viewership, but strong videos to do their demo vid which is featured for all to see, but instead they go get someone who already has 157,000 subscribers and 9 million page views; which then circulates money back into youtubes pockets via ad revenues.
It's just like how now Google (Youtube's parent company) is now focusing it's search engine results on "brands" i.e. established companies. And the circle of the haves giving to the haves continues.

It seems to me that there is is a disadvantage to not having thousands of subscribers. Otherwise how are you supposed to compete with the likes of Lisa Nova ? I think there should be some kind of video showcase to give the tutorial videos some exposure before march 17th. I did one on audioswap

Hit up my channel for my video about Insight... It doesn't go TOO deep, but it gives a general idea about Insight without being too serious.
It does sound like a good idea except the fact that the more subscribers you have, the more people watch your videos. Therefore, the youtubers with the most subscriptions will be the ones who make the most difference in the contest. It's naturally a biased competition. That's not fair. maybe make it a contest and have people vote on the best ones or something....
However, Lisanova's subscription video is awesome and completely perfect for teaching about that feature.

good/bad idea. I like the idea of fellow youtubers teaching features... but a person with 50 subscribers with an awesome video isn't going to get nearly as much buzz as a person with 50,000 subscribers and a not-so-good video. You should re-do the contest and base it on quality, not quantity.

I disagree with the idea that smaller channels can't participate. As one who has 17 tutorials on YouTube features right now I made them back when I only had a few hundred subscribers. Some of those tutorials now have several thousand views. It is all about how you title, tag, and list the video description.
i think this is a good idea but i dont have a editing software at the moment i do have a camera i would love to enter but will i have to edit the video i need more information please.
I like this idea, but I would love for some of the issues with some features to be addressed by YouTube rather than YouTube merely talking about the features. There are still many kinks that need to be worked out, and I know YT has the resources to do it. Many of the problems are small, small enough to merely need a quick fix, but when compounded, they really weigh us user down a lot at times.
Still, I like this idea, and it's a great way for us all to get involved ^_^

The thing is is that only the famous YouTubers will win because it is about the most sucsessful video. Which means the most views. Take thecomputernerd01, if he does a video and it gets viewed(a lot of course) the fans will use that feature. All the others won't stand a chance. The well-known YouTube stars will have more of a influence on there fans. :( Who agrees??
