YouTube On Your Desktop

YouTube gives you the chance to stay on top of news and current events, practice some sweet dance moves, explore new hobbies and interests, and a whole lot more. So, today the Google Desktop team is pleased to release a YouTube gadget for Google Desktop. Once installed, you'll be able to bring up the gadget in an instant and search for videos (hint: pressing the shift key twice brings up all your hidden Desktop gadgets). The videos will play directly inside the gadget, which also shows a feed of the day's most popular clips.

The gadget works on Linux and Windows. We hope you enjoy, and please let us know what you think.

Cheers,

Ronald H. and James Y.

Google Desktop Team

Great but please fix:

1. channel design problems
2. new videos do not show up in search results
3. long processing time

The only thing that would make this big was if it worked without internet.

It does not sound interesting to me. If I want to see a video, I type youtube followed by a period and the letters c, o, and m and put http before that with a colon and two slashes (I can't type the address, or the comment will be blocked). Or I find another video website.

Will partners' in-video ads still display within the gadget?

Will Google Desktop algorithmically demote files and folder on my computer that are not appropriate to a general YouTube audience or it's advertisers?

NO DEAL.

Glad to see that you're associating names with the Teams. It gives us the feeling that you care about what you're doing more when you include your names.

I am so psyched out! I have heard of UTUBE from my children and they have shown me some of the funniest stuff. I now can participate. I am 40 years old and love to learn new things on the computer. I had been blind since the age of 16, when a truck crossed the line and hit me head on. Now I can see better and am able to do things that I have been hearing about for years. It takes me a little longer, for my vision isn't all back but this is just great.
Thanks,
Shelly

Yeah, giving names is a nice bit on the blog entries.

Come on, Youtube. No mac option is just silly. So many Youtubers are people with new macs (with built in cameras). Yet another bad decision.

this is a great alternative to cluttering up yt's web interface with lots of silly new crap all over.

there are three things that really distinguish youtube from other video hosting sites: sheer volume, clean interface, and the flash player works better than any other on low-power machines. you guys are shooting yourself in the foot and then in the other foot, make your cluttery additions (they will appeal to kids and turn off many others) opt-in like this desktop gadget, not opt-out.

This gadget is great, but use the code for my blogs or websites. Does it only work for Google desktop?
