Preview of Upcoming Changes on YouTube
In a constant effort to improve the user experience and incorporate your feedback we'll be making a number of large changes to the site over the next few months. In addition to making improvements upon existing features, we'll be rolling out some brand new items that are still in the works. We can tell you there is a lot to look forward to, but in the meantime we offer you this sneak preview of the new YouTube video browsing page (our "Videos" tab) and invite you to share your feedback with us.
-- Categories will now be found under the "Videos" tab.
-- Dropdown menus make for a smoother transition when clicking through popular pages, ie. "Most Viewed," "Top Favorites," "Recently Featured," etc.
-- Tabs and video browsing pages have a new overall look and feel.
These new changes will go live very soon, so make your voice heard while we're still workin' out the kinks. Send us an email or throw down a comment on this post.

Nice job incorporating the new categories, I know a number of people were asking for those. =)
I dont like it in red, it's more elegant in silver. I like the idea of the new categories.
Well, the problem is, the colors are too basic. Unless you want to backtrack in Web Design history, keep the red (it complements the logo well) but add some gradients, bevels, etc. Also, some new fonts would be appreciated.

Please tell me another improvement will be taking the porn off youtube...unless you're planning to add a "Porn" category.
Sorry to sound cruel, but YT doesn't speak out about the subject and even suggest that notice the increase of the porn showing up on YT's front page (under the "what's being watched right now" section)
It feels like the new redesign was done just as a way to make more room for ads. Can't you just make the ads smaller? I like that color is being added to the top but like the new video pages, it seems like a step backwards, at least design-wise.
Remember YouTubes promises to make the, icons, thumb up or down, (feature/problem), a (feature/problem), that could be turned on or off, for your uploaded video.
This, Thumb Up or Down Thing, is without, merit, let alone a link to whom it is coming from or what the vote, up or down, is taking issue(s) with or how it is taking issue(s) with, the one or many issues involved; this needs to be addressed, so as to productively, linguistically, move the, comment(s), forward.
Please remove it, or at least make it an option, that the content provider of the uploaded video can remove, unless, YouTube’s, wish is to hinder, subjugate, abridge the free exercise of the, producer providers uploaded video, and associated communication forum, (comment(s)), of their uploaded video.
It is a foundational principal in science, law and logic, to be able to address so called evidence or an accuser so as to keep a logical line of reasoning possible to be cognized and addressed so as to have fair and unabridged vetting of the issue(s).
YouTube, the Thumb Up or Down icons, issue(s), needs to be addressed as you promised, and as I have just articulated here so eloquently.
Thank you, YouTube, for this opportunity to address this matter, I am hopeful that it will be implemented in this next update, as it has been stated by YouTube previously, that this, Thumbs Up or Down situation, would be corrected, so as to at least make it an option for the Video Producer who has uploaded their video to be able to at least have it as an option to be able to turn it off.

I hope YouTube will also incorporating itself into a live, (TV Show), perhaps on cable TV, if it has to be tape delayed that would be better then nothing, -------- and as you all have the, original uploaded videos, in a hopefully better visual quality format it might make for some great, TV, -------- and a great commercial product that commercials on could make you all a tremendous amount of, $$$$$$$$$$$.

I think that the Active Sharing indicator should stay. Also, the colors should be worked on. I'm fine with the drop-down menus.

I agree with a number of others that have made the point that the red color of the, Top Banner/Tool Bar, is too much, a gold, silver, blue gold swirl or something other than the bright red, would be the way to go.

I would like to have everyones imput on how to make a video of me blowing up my dell computer, I have had nothing but problems from day onewith it, now they say they shipped me some replacement parts amd were left on my door step, whice I didnt recieve, I ahve tryed over and over to work with them , but now I have had my fill, so please send me your thoughts for a video showing them howit feels to buy something that doesnt work...thanks to all
I like it, I just wish it wasn't so BIG and CLUNKY, you know..? Maybe make the dropdowns smaller. And I prefer the silver over the red, my opinion though. Still working on it so I can't complain.
Personally, I'd very much like to see you finish work on "refinements" you've already made BEFORE you hit us with yet another. You STILL haven't implemented the option to turn off the hideous "thumbs up/thumbs down" comment rating, which has proven itself to be worse than useless, of benefit only to trolls and "haters." And now the "Beta" view page, which I detested every time I tried it from the beginning, is suddenly thrust on us, like it or not, as "Watch 3.0," and the convenience, functionality, and performance of the old setup is yanked, without even the chance to express our opinions. And from what I'm reading, a large number of viewers can't even see videos at all as a result. Have you fixed that bug yet? So now you're throwing still another "improvement" at us? Another opportunity for bug-laden code to cause major failures and headaches, when there is NOTHING wrong with the existing system? You're asking for our thoughts. My thoughts are, going back to an old cliche, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Every "improvement" you've made in recent times has created major hassles, both for yourselves and for us, and has, at best, degraded the performance of the website. I would personally very much like to see you STOP shoving "improvements" at us and let us just enjoy the community as is. It works. Please stop fixing it.

I think it would be nice if one was able to control spammed comments. For example, if some trolls start randomly marking regular comments as spam one one of my videos, I have the power to reverse it.
Oh Yuotube, how are you feeling? It looks like you can't win for losing. I think the thumbs up or down on comments is ...pretty lame. The red is a bad choice , and only will be seen as a step into the 90', as far as design goes. How about some nice subtl tones and a few line breaks? Yes Youtube, I light a candle everyday, in hope of you getting back to your winning ways. Listen to the people.
I think you guys should get rid of the comment ratting sytem where you can rate comments with thumbs up and thumbs down because with my videos there's plenty of haters out there that click the down butten so you can't really look at your comments imediatly.
I agree with Moosie about the saying" If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The "beta" page which I also detest is not at par with the performance, convenience and functionality of the old set up. You even removed the URL which many of us used to be able to copy to another site our favorite videos! Howver, if you insists on your so called "imporovements," so be it! My only request is to bring back the URL of your videos.

What happened to the "Add to Group" function? Without it, the groups are dead! I want it back!!!
I hope whatever addition changes you make doesn't result in us not being able to watch videos again. When i got on youtube last night i was finally able to watch videos again after 50+ hours of not being able to. the only way i was able to watch was to copy and paste the embeded code into a post on myspace.
Could you please not allow the porn videos to invade the general public access to youtube?
Surely anyone who likes that sort of thing could switch on to another channel or something so as not to pullute our enjoyment of the site?

Looks cheap, annoying. I see in your explaining saying we have improved this and that, and also this, but I really don't see any real benefit, the only good thing I see here is the BIG ADVERTISEMENT that's a 100% real improvement. Now YouTube looks cheap and annoying.
The Only reason why the iPhone is so hot is because its looks, forget about improvements concetrate in looks, looks it what drives the masses, no matter how improved it is as longs it has no look, FORGET ABOUT IT!
Let me explain it. The other day I went to buy a Laptop, and the HP looks so beautiful with iPod technology, speakers etc. BEAUTIFUL MACHINE, I FELT IN LOVE WITH IT IMMEDIATELY but when I really looked at it it has an horrible graphic all around the computer I though it was a sticker that I could take it off later, but WRONG it was part of the look of the Laptop, many people like me wanted to buy that HP Computer because had amazing features better than any laptop, but everybody was commenting about the look, people were asking the sales people if they had that computer without the "graphic/sticker" the thing is I ended up buying a Gateway, and other people were buying Toshibas, Dells, Vaios, but EVERYBODY liked that HP Laptop, everybody was buying computer that they really didn't like it 100% but looked like a real Laptop (Black plain color) without the ugly design.
Bottom line: Car makers, Computer makers, web masters should concentrate in looks. RED color not only looks cheap but so annoying. The actual YouTube looks so elegant, clasic, easy to surf, nice to surf, with soft colors, a nice design for all ages.
You can sell rocks as long as the gift box looks amazing. You can sell literally garbage as loong as you describe it in a nice way. IT'S ALL ABOUT LOOKS.
This YouTube version WON'T SELL! Not matter how improved it's, it simply looks horrible, no taste at all. You don't have to use the red color in order to match the logo, no no no, the logo looks beautiful by itself.
Please make it more elegant, more clasic, with soft colors. About the drop menu, personally I don't like it, and I think many people agree with me, but I understand you have to make space to post ads, so that's fine with me, and I think it's a necesary measure you have to make in order to continue with your free service.
Please hire people with a lil taste in colors, design, and elegance.

Will there be a way to view description and tags from the search results page? And will you eventually consider adding an advanced search so that I can search for an exact match, instead of getting something like, "Jim and I took Neil hiking on Diamond Mountain," when I type "Neil Diamond" into the Search box? To put it simply, the red looks "crap" and cheap. And I hate the idea of categories being under the videos tab. Old way is better.
putting categories under the videos tab makes sense,but there seems to be a bug,when you hover down to "HOW TO & DIY" the hover function/categories disappear! It happens every time,try it,but it doesnt happen under the other tabs.BTW when i had the choice between using the old watch page & 3.0,i would always go back to the old page,cheers!
P.S. youtube seems to be going for a cleaner appearance,but its getting less user friendly,i dont like all the "hidden links" requiring you to hover over then click,such as "most recent" & "most viewed",like anmoose said "if it aint broke,dont fix it"

I find bulletins are useful when you want to share videos and messages with your friends. Could you do something similar, except it's for your subscribers? You could give people that subscribed to your videos a heads up on future projects and notifications. Also please bring back the "add to groups" button please.

Please delete the Comunity Tab, it makes no sense there, I don't understand why the Community tab exist there, it's almost empty.
YouTube I don't know if this is of your interest or not but I use cable to watch your video and it onlly allow me to watch part of the video(s), while when I'm connected to DSL it let me load and watch all videos, video after video NO CUTS, but with my Cable service this is just impossible, and I'm using the same computer for this.

You're actually taking a step back with that design, imo.
I'm not so excited about the amount of red. To me, red should be used sparingly, otherwise it is too distracting. Neutral colors will keep the focus on the videos & advertising, which--I hope you agree--is where it belongs.

I'm a web app visual designer by trade.
The general feel of the page elements appear a little rough/unpolished. That much red on the active bar a bit too much attention to itself.
The integration of categories into mouseover dropdowns is interesting. I wonder if that's discoverable enough &/or if users will use it. Gotta test I guess.
Good stuff... looking forward to refinements to the interface. If you're hiring visual/interface/interaction designers, I'm interested!

People always tend to criticize new creative and change. Like the functional changes as it makes the site easier to use.
I don´t like it. It gives me headaches.
Red its too loud and it seems an old version of the site...
1) Better for branding the YouTube idenity.
2) Very bright at first, but you get used to it.
3) Please balance the top red graphic header with some red at the bottom.
We still don't have our "classic view"! Haven't you noticed that people hated the new look you gave to the video pages?
The big red bar at the top needs to change to something a little more easy on the eyes. It's too harsh. I like the new menus, especially the link straight to 'My Videos' but the blue font is again too harsh on the eyes, tone down the bright red and blue. I think it needs a lot of work still. Also please don't drop the featured videos on the main page. From the preview it looks like u did.

I like the idea of dropdown menus but other than that it looks VERY messy. I also don't like the new watch page, it looks untidy. Nothing is worse than change for the sake of it. If it's not broke don't fix it.

Nice updates! Unfortunately, you don't make any mention of whether you're going to deal with racism and homophobia in user comments. I've seen hundreds of comments which, were they included in a video, would be removed from the site for a breach of the terms of use. Example: the comments on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwJvCjt85ng include racist epithets from a user whose name is 'death to the Jews', in Spanish. I'm having to post this comment because there's no other way of contacting you. This problem must be dealt with.
This would be a great time for you to implement a Poetry category or alternatively a Creative Writing category. The people demand it.

Good to see the categories change, but guys that design is shocking, the colours are horrible, the navigation is too chunky and it just doesn't flow.
I know for a fact I could design a nicer interface than that. Come on guys.

I hope you will recommend a standard for music uploads : title of the music,
singer's name etc. Now it is a caos : control for instance the different Mizo songs. I said "recommend", not "impose", because it may happen that the uploader prefers not to evidence for instance the singer "Madonna, etc", when he is not sure whether he is infringing or not copyrights.
Just curious....on the "preview" site you seem to convert the videos to 320x240 but display them by default at 480x360. Why is that? The videos look good at 100% but appear pixelated when blown up in the viewer.

'Most Viewed,' 'Top Favorites,' 'Recently Featured,' etc."...NO your dropdowns aren't smooth because they're mouseovers...which means I will have to waste time paying attention to where my pointer is since I don't want menus randomly dropping over a page and covering the content...please make your dropdowns click-only...and why the switch to red? blue is the colour of youtube...it's as strong an identity as Google's tri-colour logo...and please extend the courtesy of blogging a response to the comments ytubers have taken the time to make

You guys should make a ranking system to rank the people, not their videos. I know that you do honors, which is cool, but what about the people who are really close to an honor? You should do something that ranks them based on subscribers, channel views, average movie views (or something like that) and have a system like
1. YouTube Celebrity
2. Big Hit
3. Rising Star
4. Good Stuff
5. Not Bad
6. New Guy
7. Just Started

NO.. Don't make this the new design. It's very difficult on the eyes with that bright red and will be a good enough reason for me not to use youtube. Make everything more minimalist with smaller fonts and toned colours and it'll work much better.
Don't release it in it's current form because there are many problems that are visable and I'm sure that others have already mentioned them.

I prefer the old "Hello, ---" greeting to account holders versus the new "Hi,---!" greeting.

Almost every day, I receive a video and friend invite. The video is always the same, which I always delete. The user opens up a new account every day, which I block. Why can't I just block that IP address. It's very annoying...
Functionality wise it is a good upgrade, it just looks downright ugly. It looks like an old version of the site, keep the tabs in the same design (blue when not selected). Just generally polish it up and make it look shiney and new. Also, use Hello instead of Hi.

Here's a change that's DESPERATELY needed: A more powerful "Block" button. Currently, all the Block button seems to do is prevent someone from subscribing to or commenting on your videos. But people can still rate (or downrate) your videos.
Because of the army of haters who have invaded YouTube over the course of the last year, new users are discouraged and end up cancelling their accounts or just leaving them dormant because the haters invariably target them. You folks at YouTube know as well as I do that for anyone wanting to get partnered it's all about ratings and subscription numbers. And those two are linked: The higher the ratings, the more the subscribers; the more the subscribers, the more who look at your videos and the higher the ratings and so on and so on.
The haters know this too, and are deliberately down-rating people's videos so as to cripple their chances of getting featured. But there's a solution: Make the Block button capable of REALLY blocking someone. In other words, make it so that account can never even look at the other person's channel and, if the blocker's video(s) appear elsewhere, prevent the blockee from even watching them. That would solve the problem, and permanently.
