SEARCH LAYOUT MAKEOVER
We've made searching for videos even easier! The search page now lets you choose how you want to display your results (just click on the "List View" and "Grid View" icons to the right of the "Sort By" options). Those sort links now also appear above the search results and the search bar has been moved to the center of the page.
HOMEPAGE ADDITIONS
Now you can see thumbnails of videos your fellow users are watching in real-time. In addition, the user message center now displays alert notifications for friend requests, new messages, video responses, and videos received to your account.
WATCH 3.0
We've beta released a new version of our watch page! Major changes include: increased video player size, more videos from that user's channel are more easily accessible, and related videos are more prominently displayed. We also simplified the actions appearing underneath the video player and redesigned QuickLists. To check out the new watch page, just click on the 'try our new version' link showing to the right of the video you're watching. Your feedback is always important to us, so don't be shy and do let us know how you really feel about the new watch page. Please send any comments, suggestions or rants to: watchfeedback@youtube.com.
UPLOAD REDESIGN + GEOTAGGING
The upload page has a completely new look and now also includes a super cool Google maplet, which allows you to indicate the exact location of where your video was taken (just click the "Date and Map Options"). You can also choose Sharing Options for comments, video responses, ratings and embedding during the actual upload process. Quick Capture and Upload have also been streamlined to share the same step 1 and confirmation pages.

Even though I can see 24 videos now in the Grid layout, I can only see 10 on a page at one time with the layout that also allows me to see the description. If you're going to give people only 10 on a page, at least let us have a customizable option to go back to 20. Also, the tags no longer appear with the search results. Some people are not as descriptive as they should be, and sometimes the tags help me further in determining whether I want to watch something. As long as you're tinkering with the Search option, I'd like to see an Advanced Search where we can specify getting the results in Date Added order right away instead of having to see the Most Relevant ones first. And having a reverse Date Added would be nice. Plus having an exact phrase search capability - For instance, if I enter "Neil Diamond", I WON'T get in my results something with a description like, "We took Jim and Neil skiing on Diamond Mountain."

By the way, stop bragging! Ask your "engineers and product people" to take a look what's going on the server of LAX.YOUTUBE.COM. None of videos on that server work!
I dont like the new search layout, its WORSE... I actually loved the old search page way back when, you could see ALL THREE thumbnails for each result, so you'd get a better idea if the vid was worth clicking / was really what it said it was / etc. Rember that?
The main thing I would add, is 100 (or better yet, 200 results per page... heh, I usually use that choice for forums and such) or at least 50! Becuz with thousands of results sometimes, it takes *ages* to page thru them all with less than twenty per page!
And an option I REALLY want, is to sort by specifics such as Favorited By (How Many Times). While youre at it... can we PLEASE see who are faving our vids? And the amount and link on both our My Videos page and the video pages themselves?

Please change the subscriptions page back. The whole point of subscriptions is to make it easier to follow all your favorite channels without having to visit each individual channel's page for updates. With only 10 videos showing up, I have accidentally missed a bunch of updates, and it's a pain to click on links for each page.
I'd prefer for you to drop the "Videos being watched right now.." section from the homepage.
I know what I'm here for and don't need to see what other people are watching on top of the homepage. I'll go to the Most Viewed section if I'm interested in what other people are watching.
Where did "Total Views" go? I was all excited to see it pass 600,000 for all my videos, but it's gone!

also I have tried remixer on a mac with safari, a mac with firefox and a PC with ie and no luck.. keep getting lots of errors... anyone actually using it?? I got all the way through a video once and hit done and nothing....

1) The Remixer is great! It's easy, it's fun, and it's pretty flexible as well – not only casual users will benefit from being able to painlessly trim their videos and add a quick title or transition here and there. Nice work! It would be even cooler if we could use private videos in the remixer – upload raw clips as private, then publish the polished result.
2) The upload page looks nice and clean. Geotagging is a nifty feature – maybe the growing integration with Google does have its benefits after all. Allowing video responses should perhaps better default to 'approve' (it's on 'allow all' right now).
3) The new watch page will be fine leaves me pretty much indifferent, but I don't see the point of stretching the 320x240 video even further. Oh, and are there going to be usernames on the Related Videos?
4) Please bring back pages 6-15 of the Most Recent. It's one the most interesting sections of this site, and the one where I spend most of my time. Way more fun than that showy flash thing on the home page.
5) Please consider adding a 'More' link on Video Log posts – their descriptions are currently truncated.

I, and many others are unable to watch videos hosted on lax-v##.lax servers. This has been going on for two weeks now and I'd appreciate a fix.

Hundreds of videos missed because of latest subscriptions limitation to 10.
Please please please you have to fix the subscriptions page! It's no good as it is if you can only see a few of the newest videos! What is the point of being subscribed if you don't get the updates on peoples videos? Put it back to how it was PLEASE or I'm outta here for good. There are a lot of people upset at this, I'm not the only one.

Why have you taken off the stats showing the running total of videos viewed on a channel? Now we have to look at our videos and add up the individual totals to get a running total of all videos watched. Can you put that stat back on the page or somewhere within a channel> Thanks.
Thanks for the updates, and it's much appreciated that people there are working to make the site better.
But I was curious as to any updates with regards to the subscriptions list. There are only 10 new videos appearing in my subscriptions list. This may seem like nothing, but this is a big problem for me because 1, I am missing a lot of videos and 2, people are missing MY videos. My videos don't get that much views as it is, it's gonna get lesser views even more because my subscribers won't get to know about it. Isn't this a huge problem, you think?
I'm SURE you guys are aware of this. I just wish someone would say something in this blog just so we know you're working on it.

FIX THE SUBSCRIPTIONS SECTION SO WE CAN ACTUALLY SEE WHEN PEOPLE PUT VIDEOS OUT! WE'RE MISSING THEM! Also, the Videos Being Watched Right Now feature is absolutely pointless as its filling with porn and other rubbish - in theory its a good feature, but doesn't work when there are dirty people here... the number of ratings appearing below the stars in a video also needs to be fixed... and can we PLEASE have the option of turning off friend requests!!!

Have you actually watched what comes up in the videos being viewed now section. Apart from being irrelevant (I watch what I want to watch) I can imagine a lot of parents banning their kids from YouTube with some that are being watched. And a plea for total views being returned.

Does the GeoTagging actually work? Every time I go back to the map after saving the changes it shows the default location. If I click on the search button it claims it can't find the lat/lon which is pre-entered in the box. Also how do we search/find other videos that have been geotagged?
Also I agree with the comment below about the "recently watched videos" - I don't want some of those videos showing up each time I view YouTube - they're not the sort of videos I watch so why put them in my face on each visit to the front page? Give us an option to switch it off, or maybe only let it show "recently watched videos" from friends and channel's we're subscribed to who have Active Sharing on?
What happened to the total number of times all of my videos have been watched? Has that number been moved somewhere??? I need that number!
#1 - Like keybdwizrd, I also like to see the 'total number of times all my videos have been watched'.
#2 - I don't like that you now only show me 10 of the newest videos from all my subscriptions. I'm missing alot of new videos because they aren't displayed on my new video page. I subscribe to so many people now, that It's cumbersome to have to click on all 100+ people just to see if they ahve a new video. PLEASE change this back to the way it was. OR make it easier for me to click on each one of my subscriptions to view their latest videos.

Where has my total viewing figures gone? That's part of the fun of youtube, not seeing friend invites or received video numbers. Even if you put the total figures in my account along side my channel views would be o.k... I love my total figures, i need them!

I can't believe YT had the nerve to post that ridiculous and self-serving blog post considering all the problems with their site, and they even ended it with "toodle-oo" LOL! UNBELIEVABLE!! VIDEOS ARE GETTING STUCK ON THE LOADING SCREEN AND A LOT OF US CAN'T SEE APPROX 25% OF THE VIDS POSTED!! THERE ARE MANY OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL. Hey! I have an idea! Add a real-time video view count box! That would be awesome! Also, the beta page is horrible. It looks like Google Video's video page. G-vid was a flop. Don't use beta!
The current 10 video limit to new posted videos from my subscriptions is a major disappointment and it makes coming to the site for other reasons minimal. Again I spent days trying to understand what the problem was until someone finally was kind enough to inform me. You guys really have poor public relations. And the engineers need to test on a limited scope before experimenting on the whole site.

Please change the limit on new videos from my subscriptions, i'm missing lots of videos from people i want to watch. It worked perfectly well before, so why mess with it. If you want to alter it, set it up so that when you've watched one of your subscriptions videos it's no longer shown.
I quite like the Watch 3.0 feature, it seems to be a bit of an improvement.
Geotagging is a waste of time, it's just a gimmick. Why waste your time doing that when there must be so much more that really needs fixing.

We all appreciate that you're trying to improve this site. But you always seem to go about it in a very strange manner.
The total views and summary info is important to me, too, but the most important thing is being able to see *all* the videos from the channels I subscribe to in one place. As it is now, I miss a lot of videos that are very important to me, and it is completely impractical to search each channel individually. Without this, the value of subscribing is eliminated, and the notion of community in YouTube is fatally undermined.
**This is a make-or-break issue for the long-term success of YouTube**

Bring back Total Views. I have been watching mine for a year. My Total reached 121,000 and then disappeared and my enthusiasm for the site disappeared as well. I fact I think you should develop a stats page for those of us who upload so that we can see in more detail how each video is performing. The new page layout looks good but YouTube should remember we upload our videos for our benifit not for YouTubes.
When I view my subscriptions I see only ten recent videos. I am missing the overwhelming majority of the videos my friends produce because I don't know they are there. Surely you don't expect everyday for me to comb through every channel I am subscribed to? That is about as dumb as it can get. This must have been a mistake. If you made this change deliberately, please give us some reasoning. Nobody likes it! In addition to not being able to view friends' vids, my most recent post received about one-fourth of the views I normally get for a video because nobody of my 700+ subscribers knows it's there.
Please, please bring back the old view of video subscriptions. This is really ruining my YouTube experience, which I have loved for a long time.

Stop screwing up everything to tweak things that are more cosmetic changes than anything. For the first time in, well, since the site started, YT was running smoothly for almost two months. Now, it's back to having stupid glitches and errors. Why not warn us when you do make changes, and let us know what will be screwed up and for how long? (continued to to stupid character limits)...
Give us back the old subscription lists, where we can see ALL our subscribed videos from the past year. And I noticed this morning that I was put in "time out" after commenting more than three times, again! I thought that YT found a solution for that? Why happened? Look at the comments below from other users; I am not alone in my frustrations!

I love to watch Whose line videos and Drew Carey Show videos. Lately, all you can pick up are those stupid videos with "juggies and tits and crappy language in the description. Why do thoes things have to show up on such good places? Can't you fix it so they don't so we people who just want some plain good comedy can find it?
Please bring back the "subscription favorites" to my subscriptions page. I personally do not upload videos, and I have several friends who don't either. My friends have similar taste in videos, and I would like to see what they are saving as their favorities. Why was this taken off?? Please leave well enough alone!!

Does anyone know how to add music to your video using the remixer? I am getting no music song options to add to my video. I'm trying to upload a song, that isn't working and using audioswap only lets you choose THEIR songs.

What the hell has happened to the new subscribed videos? They're the only videos I watch on youtube, and now I'm missing out on practically all of them!!!!!! It only shows up the 10 newest (sometimes even less than that), I have loads of subscriptions, and there usually 30-40 new videos a day so with the changes you've made I have no way of finding new videos without going though all 200 of my subscriptions!!

kylben: I just uploaded a video with Firefox 2.0.0.4, it worked fine. What kind of error message do you get? - About the Remixer: I guess adding music isn't implemented yet. But even though it's beta, there should be a note somewhere informing people that you cannot yet save your remixes (the compiling completes fine, but then the video is nowhere to be found).
On your new watch page, there isn't any honors or links sections...

I always appreciate YouTube trying to give us cool new features. I havent had time to really use the remixer. I DO really like the new search features, the bigger alerts on the home page, and the bigger player on the new watch page. Here are a couple problems:

I just posted a video petition about the subscription page. I hope to get a lot of people to either post a short video response, or leave a comment supporting bringing back the old page. Click on my name and it'll be the first video there. Spread the word, and lets make sure YouTube knows how important this is.

All the additions are good, but PLEASE, do NOT go ahead with the redesign of the Watch page.
I like the simplified bits underneath the video and the larger player, but the video description should always be to the right of the vid, at the top.
I really don't have any complaints about the new changes. Though I admit i'm still used to the previous looks and layout. Also, is it true all anime videos are being deleted? If so, I hope it doesn't continue. Many good videos consist of anime, and i am in the middle of making a few anime videos. Please don't delete them. Thank you.

Regarding the new limitations on subscriptions: IT SUCKS.
The new beta version for videos is nice really like the larger viewer. Though like others on here I really would like to be able to see all of my new subscription videos not only 10. I have missed so many new videos because of this. And the counter for total videos viewed really needs to come back.
many members use software to send automated friend requests, and automated subscriptions, do something against that. im an uploader, if you dont fix this problem, i will have to do the same, but i think that is not sense of youtube!!??!

It is very difficult to see the new videos of the channels one subscribes to, especially if one has a great deal of subscriptions like myself. All that shows up on the “my subscriptions” page is the videos that were posted only in the last 1-2 hours (half of which can not even be viewed because they are still processing.) This change makes it very difficult and time consuming to painstaking to visit each and every subscription looking for newly loaded videos in the last day or so.

Where is the total video views count that used to be on the home page when you logged in? It is not on the account page either.
This 10 view video limit is intolerable. I have 350 subscriptions, and I have them *all* for a reason. Your other features bore me, and I truly have no interest in them. I would please ask you to simply roll back the changes or at least fix the 10 view limit as I feel it damages my experience here immensely.

My only comment here is that maybe you guys should post a blog regarding the most mentioned comments or something. Just to show that you care about total views and subscriptions specifically for example. I know this seems obvious and I'm sorry but I really think a little real feedback or comment from YouTube would be good for customer relations.
I can't help but think that if folks see changes they don't like or the site's slow they'll tend to assume the worst, unless there's some communication from you. Even just a little note from you like Tom leaves about updates/changes on MySpace would really go a long way.

I like a lot of the changes. I used Audio Swap for example on one of my random clips and I think it's a really handy feature. It was much easier and quicker for me to use than WMM to dub the audio and there was no need for me to adjust the timing which I liked. I enjoy watching YouTube grow and develop every day and I'm pleased to be a part of it, teething problems and all ;)

OMG .. I want to see all the videos from those I sub to in the "My Subscriptions" section. It only shows 7-10 videos now whereas before we could see multiple rows and pages. .. When I close out without watching I have to go hunt for the dang ones that aren't showing up. Please fix it!

All those changes are well and good but please, please, please, please, before you spend one single manhour on ANYTHING else as far as new features, you NEED to fix the subscription page FIASCO. I'm sure you know most peoples subscription page is only showing at most 10 videos. In other words the subscription page is about as close to useless right now as you can come to useless. So fix it guys..... OK!!! Drop everything else your doing. Put every single person you have at your disposal and FIX THIS. It's the single most important thing you can do right now.
I, along with many other YouTubers, am not happy with the new subscription video feature. Your solution is that I should log onto YT several times a day, so that I don’t miss any videos. Actually, it is more than several times a day. When I check for ‘new videos’ after about 10 minutes, the videos that were there before are all gone. And, if I can’t log in several times a day, I need to go to over 800 individual channels to see if they put out a new video. I am very annoyed. Who thought of this, and why? I can understand if a user only subscribes to a couple of channels, and is happy with this. But, most subscribe to many channels. I really wish you would change it back to the way it was. Or, how about this idea? Let the user chose how they would like to see them, maybe see 1, 3, 5, or 20 pages. Or, a choice of seeing new videos that are 1day old, 1 week old, etc… There are many videos floating around by unhappy YT users. Please view them and do something to reverse this bad decision that was made. This change is definitely not for the better…

The new recent video page is not-acceptable.
What we needed is the old system together with some dynamic folder/tag system so that we can get some order into our 100+ subscriptions.

All I see in the 'real-time' thumbnails are Simpsons, Family Guy, and stick fighting over and over. And the occasional videos that are already featured on the director sidebars. It should be more randomized.
I do not enjoy the fact that I cannot see vids from all of my subscriptions save for the last couple posted. I have missed so many videos because of this new feature. Ok. My thank you still holds, but I'm with everybody else on the order. They used to be chronological with most recent first. Now they seem to be alphabetical which makes no sense.
PS I figured out the the order of the vids with the NEW BUG:
The videos are in ALPHABETICAL ORDER BY TITLE within each page of the "My Videos" and "Favorites" pages, though page 1 still has all newer vids than page 2, etc

Guys, I don't want to pile on, I really don't. But have you looked at some of those videos that are positioned in the single most prominent position on the homepage? They're more prominent than the videos you've decided to feature, but would you really be comfortable featuring things like "Reno 9-11 Bares All", or "Walk it out - EXPLICIT"? That's the kin of stuff I can go to Metacafe, Break, or LiveLeak for, I don't need it on YT. Your new features may sound great on paper, but they need more thought and discussion before rolling them out to everyone.
I'm not sure if this is under the right post but it said site update and this is the closest I could come to something of my problem to relate too. My computer with the actual files of my AMV's I have made has crashed and lost everything. Could i somehow retrieve my videos from your server so I can have the files again?
The subscriptions bar is still not totally back to the way it was, before you could go back over a year, now it only let's me go back about three days...

I, like MANY others do not like the fact that only 10 of the latest videos show up from people I subscribe to. If you only usb to a handful of people it is no problem, but most of us sub to quite a few, and if some of them make lots of videos we will miss them unless we go in search of them. Surely it wasn't an intended change to remove the function whereby we can view page after page of all unviewed videos by those to whom we subscribe instead of just 10 or less. PLEASE for God's sake and ours, put it back the way it was and quit trying to make changes nobody could care less about..like those fancy animated videos at the top of the page...WHO CARES? Crickey! PLEASE put the category search funcion back in! I tried to find videos from the band Tantric but got "Tantric Sex" instead. this is annoying to sort through the junk to find a few things. The only reason a large company changes something is to advance their agenda. It is my guess that YouoogleTube wishes to continue to promote the "Partners" and thus by changing the way we see the site, under the cloak of , we are doing this for you, they can increase their control. I think they simply want single videos that produce high numbers more than they want viewers to become fans of one site.
Continued.. so by eliminating the the total, as in my case, where combined views for all videos reached over 100,000 on the crabapplestudio site, and 30,000 on the dantraveling or dmccoig site. They can justify picking and choosing the content that is directed at the target audience, which I would just guess is Young men 18-34. Just look at the features and the partners they pick.. or maybe its simply that the people picking are all 18-34 and therefore .. so anyway there is a reason for changes, and my guess is it follows the money somewhere? There is a reason for removing the view counts, and it is after all a giant company now and it is starting to show.
